On behalf of a mate who has purchased a Mazda Extra cab Turbo Diesel 4by with 70k on it, & is a bit dissapointed that it only gives
14 L to 100k. Can Mazda owners comment on this figure for the
2.5 motor? I suggested it sounded a bit high & he might try changing air & fuel filters. He is a first time diesel driver & seems
unsure of what rev range to use as
well, so maybe some of you
familiar with the marque could offer your thoughts & I'll pass it on.
Medium load, country driving. Thanks.....oldbaz.

We have the three litre version so our figures are not realy relevant to your question, but for what it is worth generally speaking as follows.
Freeway & not towing 110 KPH 10L per 100 K
Around town about 12 L 100 K
Towing 1800 Kg van @ about 90 KPH 14 L 100 K

We have what is called a BT 50 & as far as I know all versions of this model are three Litre. I think the 2.5 might relate to the previous model known as a Bravo. ( I think!!)

Thanks again. I guess by the k's it would be around 3 years old,
so you are probably right about the Bravo part. I will check with
the owner. cheers....oldbaz.

I have a 3Lt. Ford
Ranger single cab for work, and have a consumption similar to what Barry F has given, there is a
Ranger with a 2.5 Lt, so I assume Mazda has the same version, by what I am led to understand, consumption is very similar.

They really are poor figures for a diesel...
My ML Triton 3.2Di-D gets 7.5 - 8L/100 @ 110kph and 8.5 - 9.5L/100 around town - all figures are calculated manually and not from the car-puter.

I have the 2.5 ford courier and get around 10 Lt / 100Ks
There is a very small filter under the banjo fitting where fuel pipe enters the fuel pump.

I have a 2001 2.5 turbo diesel bravo I generally get 12L per 100k and it goes to 13.5lper 100k when loaded with slide on camper. Slower speeds 90-95k will improve ecconomy.Regards revs I only rev to 3000 RPM before changing gears and keep it in the power band of the turbo which he should be able to feel soon as it starts to fade power change gears.
Mine has done 240000 ks now and still going strong with on problems.
Hope this might help
