Hi All,
Mate at work owns a GU 4.5 ltr patrol petrol/gas auto.
But is contemplating on changing over to a diesel patrol.
For our next trip to ULURU and surrounds.
But wants to know the approx fuel consumption for GU :-
3.0ltr diesel patrol ?
3.0ltr turbo diesel patrol ?
4.2 diesel ?
4.2 diesel turbo ?
He had the Gq 2.8 diesel which got 11ltr/100 kms fully laden to the cape and back.
Any answers would be much appreciated.
Regards

11-12L/100Ks all the time except towing (pop top van) when it goes to 15-16L/100Ks occasionally worse if side/head wind is encountered. Keep the revs down and it is more econical, strange but true!
Fuel comsumption is a minor cost of owning and running a vehicle. To change over to simply save money on fuel,
well it takes a long time to break even if you ever do. However diesel is readily available throughout Australia but so is petrol.
If the GU is in good nick, I'd keep it and save the change over money for another or longer holiday. Sometimes the devil you know is better than the devil you dont.

Mrbush
Have a 4.2TD (2001 GU11)
I am averaging 7.18km/lt... last 2 tanks
I take it easy, to preserve fuel, but I have been told that with 285/75/16 tyres on it, that's all I can expect.
Mate in
Leongatha gets the same comsumption with same size tyres..
Chatting to another 4.2 TD owner in Wonthaggi, but with smaller 265/75/16 tyres, and he was getting 9km/lt, added Gas to it and now gets 10km/lt.....that's great for such a big vehicle.
So it looks like before I get the Patrol, Dyno tuned, I will be putting BFG265/75/16's on her, to give the Diesel Tuning joint the best chance to get our economy up to as close to 9km/lt as possible.
Then I will be happy
Cheers
Bucky

I have a 3lt CRD and towing a 2.5t off-road van used 19.6 lt/100km on my first 3000km trip, 700 km on dirt roads.
On my last trip towing with the Patrol over similar terrain covering 1200km I averaged 15.8 lt/100km.
Towing the same van with my Terracan I averaged 14.6 lt/100 km over 10,000 km driving in the same manner.
The difference with the second trip in the Patrol was I had a Scangauge fitted and when that showed 70, 80 or 90+ lt/100km fuel use I tended to back off (it was not showing real figures but the comparisons were useful in driving use of the right foot).
The 3 lt CRD's have to be driven very carefully to get respectable fuel consumption.

I own a 3lt CRD Patrol and i am not impressed with the economy of a so called "efficient diesel" unladen with cuise at 110k/hr got 15.6lt/100 kms!! Others are reporting bad economy as
well it appears their is a computer software problem but Nissan are VERY slow to come up with a solution.
The CRd can't be that "green" if it is burning more fossil fuels than its predecessor.
