KMart have a Stockman weekender folding picnic set (table & chairs) on special for $30. what are they like? Does anyone have the dimensions of the thing when folded up? was going to have a look tomorrow but if they are NFG, or not of suitable size for what I want, I will save the trip.

Thanks

If its anything like the one i bought from Big W a few years ago, forget it.. It was about the same price but it only did one trip beore all the nuts fell of the tiny bolts that hold it all together. The big W unit is poor quality, i think this one will be the same manufacturer.. Fortunately, the thing folds up so all the pieces that fall off, will be inside if you open carefully .. LOL!! Michael

Thanks Michael. Might still have a look. We had one years ago - heavy sucker and lasted for years. Finally threw it out because wooden seats were shot and the frame went rusty.

I bought a folding picnic table from K Mart years ago. Lasted about 5 years, so I replaced it a few years ago. Does the job, and was cheap enough.
I had a Jackeroo 5 man tent that survived around 10 years...another good buy.
Bought a few expensive Brand name thermos that lasted about 1 millisecond when dropped. My current one survived the drop test :)) It's a well known brand that has caused lots of "argy bargie" (thanks, Mr PM:) on this forum some time ago.

It's all a matter of what suits you of course, but personally I find those folding sets a bit of a pain. I want to be able to move my chair away, around and don't want to be huddled together over the table. So, I find the table/chair units a bit claustrophobic and prefer a couple of lightweight folding chairs and a folding table. Don't take much more space, but give you a much more flexible arrangement.

Good points you make here. I'm just a bit tight for storage but I'm sure I'll work it out. Might even make a folding table without chairs yet. The more I think about it the more I think that for $30 it can't be all that good.

Inherited one from Dad.... nasty things.

You need to be a midget to sit at them and be VERY friendly with everyone else AND want to face the way you are sitting.

Also a hole in one part wrecks the lot.

Light folding table and whatever number of folding chairs you need are more useful. IMHO :-]

Didn't end up buying one. Had a look today - they were quite flimsy and the plastic mouldings were thin and poor quality. Bought some folding chairs and a couple of sleeping bags for the kids though.

Yes they do have them. I said to her "why don't we just get another one of them" (we have 1 already, useful item). She said "nah, we probably won't end up using it". That's that then I thought... LOL

I bought one end of last year, on sale for $29. Packed it away for our 6 month trip and the first time I sat down on it my seat buckled. I'm only 85KG and the one I had previous to this one lasted us years. Can't remember where I got that one from though. Anyway, took it to another Kmart on the road for a refund.

Cheers,

Mark.
