Not sure of the actual rainfall but there is a patch of raincloud traveling southeast across the interior south of Alice Springs and down toward east of Melbourne. The radar is showing patches of rainfall activity.

Accordin to the August 2008 Daily Weather Observations Maree had 13mm in the 1st half of the month, Moomba and Birdsville had 0mm. We aldo had nil in the hills but it started chucking it down this morning. Is it raining in Port Aguta?

Morning D

If the road gets too wet it is closed straight away. You could ring the Police at Marree

Here is the weather forecast link

If you came this way instead I would offer you a cuppa. Only 130km to the north east from where you are. You may give me a call on 08 86513229

Hi jdwynn, thanks for your info, sounds like the Birdsville is still open at the moment so after our friends get here we will head off and check with authorities in Maree when we get there.

If you go back 10 threads, Ruth mentioned that the Birdsville track is open now to 4x4's.. Michael

Not quite. Ruth noted that the inside Birdsville Track is now open again for 4WD. The inside track is an alternative route. If there is any more rain, I'd be careful of this as it doesn't take much rain on the inside track and it will likely be closed again. The outside track is a better bet in wet weather.

Hi Michael, thanks for the info, yes I did see that thread from Ruth but we are not using the inside track.

Hi Mfewster, we had decided to use the outside track (fortunately), as long as we can get to Birdsville we don't really need to get out in a hurry, anyway from what we hear it wouldn't be such a bad place to be stuck in LOL.

Cheers

Not directly related to the prevailing weather conditions, but could someone explain to me about the 'inside' and 'outside' track.

We would love to do this run in the next 12 mths.

Apologies for the hijack.

About 170km south of Bville on the bville track, there is a turn off to the left with another track into Bville. It runs through Clifton Hills Station. Its a nicer drive but closes down when wet. Finding the turnoff can be tricky as their are a number of unmarked tracks crisscrossing the area where it starts. Someone is sure to be able to give you some coordinates. A couple of sandunes can be tricky.

Try this link

Inside Track

Have not done it yet, first time up theBirdsville Track, was flooded.
2nd time to Birdsville, came in from Innaminka and Walkers Crossing.

Just ring "Copper's" at Maree, or put a post on here, the ever green Ruth D. will help If she is any where near a computer, along with heaps of others
Have a look at Hema Maps of the area, and they may have all the associated phone No.s to ring, for an instant update..
Somewhere on this site, I am sure you will find then too.

Cheers
