Hi Folks,
95% certain that we will replace the old tow vehicle with a new Pajero, 25th Anniversary model.
BUT the spare tyre has been lowered on its cradle on the outside of the back door (from the higher height of previous models), I presume to give better driver rear vision when not towing the c'van.... the down side is "will the van's D hitch fit beneath the tyre and how easy is it to unhitch." The dealer is non committal.
Do any of you own a new Pajero 2008 or have a friend that has and who tows a van etc and if so could you ask and let me know.
Regards

hey mate
i've got the Anniversary model as
well.
The Pajeros hv a wheel raiser which you can purchase as an accessory. It raises the wheel by 50mm. It basically bolts onto the current spare wheel mount and the spare then mounts onto the bolts on the wheel raiser.
This is the highest you will be able to raise the wheel without affecting the hard cover. Any higher and the wheel will interfere with the cover. You can remove the cover but you'll lose the reversing camera and 2
parking sensors.
This thread will show you exactly what i'm talking about
Spare Wheel Raiser
Cheers
Jeelan

Thanks for your help Jeelan
I logged onto Mitsubishi , Victoria Pajero club and registered. Still trying to work out how to post a question.
Reading its archives it appears that like the EO posted reply from GraghamH their members suggest there are problems with the 2008 Pajero not only has probems with gettting access to the D shackle to unhitch without fitting a wheel riser but maybe getting the door open at all with a Hayman Reece fitted is another problem
When I drop of the van at a caravan
park I don't want to have to remove the HR hitch from the towbar in order to get a beer out of the back of the Paj.
Maybe the 60k has to stay in my pocket for a while longer.
Thanks again

Was the subject of comments in a recent caravan test in one of the mags. They said they couldnt get the door open cos the top of the D connector on the van was too high when at correct towing height. Seems to be a problem in the model.

Thanks Grham H,
I suspected the problem just waiting in the wings until after purchase.
This sort of knowledge could mean spending best best part of 60k on another towie. Can you remember what mag and about when or any avenues to follow to identify the article.
Thanks again

Was probably in a Caravan & Motorhome and was in a road test of a van rather then the Paj but there was a photo of how the door wouldnt open over the hitch.
Cant remember which issue and as I have about 3 years issues will take a while to find it Will try to look it out later today.
One of my mates has last years Exceed so will ask him in an hour or so

Hi SKI er, we are looking at buying a second hand 2006 NP GLS (series 3) and wonder if the same issue applies?
Interested to hear what owner's experiences are with either model and are you happy in general?

Hi Anton & Barb
To be honest I don't know. With the help of Graham H he sent me an article from a caravanning magazine. Graham emailed it me because he din't want to get into copyright problems using the EO site
It proved that the Paj has other problems not only the D hitch but in getting the rear door to swing open with the caravan still conected.
SKI'er and Mrs are probably making things more difficult by wanting to maintain the use of our ($650) HR load leveller.
I went to the Mitsu dealership along with our after market HR LL and the article. Our HR LL cou;dn't be fitted to the HR built for Mitsu tow bar because Mitsu have a 2mm reduced/smaller "square" hole just to keep you buying mitsu genuine parts. BUT our HR LL elevated to height on telephone books told me that we would have problems. We walked away to the Toyota dealership to buy a Prado.
We described our Paj setback and the Toyota salesman said we would have the same problem with the new Prado. His suggestion was to go full hog with with a new 4.2 or a used 100 series Landcruiser.
Our aged Pathfinder liveth on for a bit longer.
Sorry I cannot be of more help.
Regards
SKI'er
