Just wonder if anyone could help. Every time when I'm driving on the 5th gear and when my foot is of the gas, it jumps back to neutral. I took it to the local service centre to check it out and it was return with the same problem. Not sure if I should bring it back. Oh my vehicle is 2006 LC 79 series cab chassis with the 1hz engine. Thanks.

Take it back, you paid to get it sorted, they haven't done the job.

Cheers,

No, I'm writing from the Solomon Islands, only 1 year and only 1 dealership.

Hello Kiko,
Have you done any towing in 5th?
When my 60 series did that it meant a rebuild of the gearbox and transfercase.
To hear any funny noises you can place the transfer lever in the N position and run through the gears as normal.(with motor running and clutch out ,up to about 2500 rpm should be enough). If you hear any ominous clunking noises then you could be in for a large repair bill.
The h155 (I think this is the model number) gearbox is a bit lightweight and has a history of failure in 5 th gear.
My understanding is that its made up of mainly Prado parts whereas the turbo model gets a stronger gearbox.
Wish you all the best.
Alan.

With toyota gearbox's the only thing you can normally look at without stripping the box is the condition of the seat that the lever pivots in & the white plastic bush on the end of the stick that goes into the selector in the box & the detent mechanism (everything else is internal in the box)

If both of these are ok (it is going all the way into 5th) you will need to remove the box & have a look inside

Sometimes a broken engine or gearbox mount can let the transmission move about & knock it out of gear but i doubt this is the problem with yours as it is not that old

Also if the box is the same as in a aust spec veh it will be a R series box not a H as previously stated

Has the box ever been out before ?

Thanks for the advice, will certainly look into it. I don't think the box has ever been out.
