I've done the archives but little reference to caravan access. Planning for March-ish, 09. Soft-roader caravan 18ft 16/1700kg, pretty good clearance, dual axle, average
suspension. Wanted to take the tribe somewhere to base ourselves and maybe do day trips. Dog on board. Coming in from the north. Immediately thought of Buckland Valley but don't know if I'll get the van in or if there are very steep access roads. Tug is an LR Defender.
Mitta Mitta? Advice appreciated.

Steve plenty of areas to get a van into a base
camp in the High Country. Mitta is easy of course, Buckland Valley as far as Beverages Station, Buffalo Valley,
Talbotville,
Dargo River, Sheepyard Flat &
Goulburn River above Jamieson all have rough 2wd access to nice spots on a river. By March the crowds will have dropped off as easy access like this normally means lots of campers. Just need to ensure you are out of the National
park with the Mutt even on the day trips. Lots of Rangers getting about these days.
Cheers Craig..............

thanks Craig.
Is Beverages a better option than Macguires? Are there fees?
Never been before and am "researching". Looks like Buckland is a good base for nearby "outings"

Buckland is
free camping, fire pits but no
toilets. Up to Beverages is State
Park but anywhere south is National
Park.
Plenty to see around the area with a great intermediate track network in behind Mt Buffalo &
Bright. From there one can day trip without a dog to Blue Rag, Mt Murray,
Lake Cobbler & Wonnangatta.
Refresh my memory where Macguires is? I most likely would have been there but the name doesn't ring a bell.
Cheers Craig.......

Macguires Pt is one of the
camping areas at Buckland Valley that has room for vans - sounds like a big, open grassy area?
the track over to Mt St Bernard, is that about 30/40 mins from Beveridge
camping area?
might bring this forward to Feb - I suppose if the cold weather doesn't get us, the March flies will.
cheers,
Steve

Closer to 1.5 hours via Twins Jeep track.
Beverages Station is actually private property with no
camping allowed. There are 5 or 6 areas with Caravan access prior. Take caution on the road in as it's narrow & log trucks are often hauling from the area. They use channel 40 to broadcast their locations & don't stop.
