I have 3 Willow Diesel Jerry Cans that have the wide cap to allow for use with high flow pumps.
2 of the jerry cans caps won't seal due to the thread being US.

I contacted Willow via email late yesterday afternoon to let them know about the issue as the Jerry Cans have leaked since new and they are less than 12 months old.
I no longer have the purchase receipt so have accepted that it is my loss and I will have to purchase new ones. (Yes I know Nick I should stayed with the Metal Ones I gave you).

I have just received a phone call from Willow HQ in Melbourne for them to organise a Courier to collect the 2 faulty jerry cans so the QA assessors can investigate the problem. If it is found to be a manufacture or design fault they will replace the Jerry cans.
I didn't expect for them to do this and was preparing to convince Sam that I needed to get a few new ones due to the other 2 leaking ;)

I have to say that Willow have the confidence to stand by their products and ensure that possible faults are rectified.

I'll keep you informed of the out come.

Cheers Kev

I picked up five last year for the Simpson crossing. Three leaked and were replaced by Kmart. Only prob was finding somthing to put the Diesel into till the new ones were avaiable.
Have not had any worries with the replacments.

It look like it might be a manufacturing issue then. I thought I might have had an isolated case.

Hi Kev

Funny , thats the only sort I have found that don't leak (I use red petrol ones) , and love the fact that you can squeeze in at least 23lts.

However they aren't perfect and when I got my last 6 ,I carefully followed the thread and removed a couple of little dags and plastic lumps that could potentially cause sealing issues or thread jumps if lid isn't put on just right.

The plastic thread is easy to stuff up , but apart from that the many others I have used smell if left in the car and have all been given away or relegated to lesser duties.

Robin,

I see on their web site they now have Red Jerry Cans with a wide mouth and 2 handles to pour with (one on top and one on the side)

I might replace the yellow ones that leak with these as they look easier to handle when pouring.

Cheers Kev

Hi Kev

That was a story , I got 5 for my recent bike trip and designed the trailer to lay the jerries between the bike channels.

When I then brought a sixth it was one of those new design ones you refer to.

But they are 8mm wider and didn't fit the trailer , so I took it back
and we hunted for a while before I found a dusty old stock one in a less used shop. It fitted , I'm happy , but just goes to show you can't please all of the people all of the time.

I guess the extra width is to make up for the loss of volume with the 2nd handle.

I may have to check that they will fit in my jerry holders on my trailer, they should as they water jerries fit in them and they are wider than the fuel ones.

Cheers Kev

G`day Kev,
On our recent trip across the Simpson we left it until Birdsville to fill the red Willow jerry with diesel when we laid it on its back it leaked from the large cap. We tried dressing the thread a bit, a new seal in cap, all to no avail . We bought a new one from the servo for $65.00 (GEEEEZZ) and transferred the diesel , left the leaky Willow one beside the rubbish bin.
If you have to contact Willow again you can tell them about this if you want, it could have lead to some serious problem in other circumstances.
I saw black ones in super cheap the other day that I think looked better than either the red or yellow ones .
I have about a dozen ex-army heavy metal ones that I use ,(not all at once) still reckon they are better than plastic.

Well done so far,I will watch to see how it ends up.

Scrubby,

At one stage I had 9 ex Army metal jerrys and 9 plastic ones LOL

Plus 12 water jerrys, I had a bit of a clean out this time last year and am down to 6 fuel jerrys and 8 water.

I think the Willow issue may be due to the bigger cap size. Time will tell I suppose.

Cheers Kev
