AHHHH...I need some technical advice......

My inside drivers door latch does not open the door and the window has to be wound down to open door from outside which is a real pain.

Stripped the door down and have looked at the mechanics of it all from the inside. There does not appear to be anything that has broken so maybe it is just an adjustment which has to be made. Both outside and inside door latches work the lock mechanism though the inside does not activate it as far as the outside latch does.

I have looked at my Gregory's Manual but it is inconclusive in its diagram and after an hour od Googling I still have not come up with an answer.

Are there any luminaries( or door latch techno's) out there with some advice?

Cheers

Hi Willem
With the door open close the latch by hand
reach inside the door and operate the release cam at the lock to see if the lock is functioning.
If it is, it may be that the operating rod has been deformed
They are easy to bend back to the correct shape and length

Thanks for your symnpathy, Axle!!!

I had the rear door outside latch break a while back. A young fella here on EO found one for me in the Big Smoke and it was replaced.

Looking down into the cavities of the door is something else....lol

Hi Willem. There is a little spring that goes from the inside locking lever(which is operated by the snippet knob/rod from above) to the locking latch. This spring usually rusts and breaks. You may find pieces in the bottom of the door. If that is the case it may be easier to look at the L.H. side to see how it attaches. If it is the spring you can usually find some thing from Repco that you may have to cut and bend the ends to suit. Bob.

Thanks Bob

I will investigate a bit more as I don't see a spring marked in the diagram on the set-up. I will try to squeeze my arm down the inside oif the door...lol

Hi. A telescopic magnet is an easier way of fishing around the door bottom. They are always handy if you drop something as well. Available from a Repco/tool store. Regards, Bob.

I had problem with my right rear passenger door with the outside not working yet the iside one did.

I found that the little rod connected to the handle, when you lift the handle it moves this rod which then moves a slider (behind the door lining close to the door latch) which is connected to a rod to the door latch.

This slider was jammed and not moving at all. So some CRC, a few minutes of wriggling the handle and dispersing the CRC had it working again. Not working 100% but it does open every time now.

Worth a try.

Thanks Barnesy. It is the slider which is broken. A Tek screw has fixed that.
