Hi Folks
Our new Land Cruiser 1997 80series, factory turbo, auto- absolutely standardwith std road tyres. The speedo is reading 12 kms higher at 100Ks and the 100Kms has been checked against 2 GPS units- the engine revs compare well with our other 80 series cruisers.

Can anyone suggest how to modify or calibrate the speedo to show the correct speed?

Thanks
Ray

Maybe the last owner ran bigger wheels and had the speedo corrected. I think that would make yours over read

From what i understand, every car's speedo overreads so you are going a little under what speed you think you are. Normal tolerance is up to 10% i thought. If yours is standard and is overreading by 12% then i think thats normal for your cruiser. I fitted 285s to my '97 80series and mine overreads by 4%. Every car is a bit different so at least you know via absolute accurate means how your speedo reads.
I would either calculate it into your speed and get used to it, run higher profile tyres when they are due for replacing which will get it closer to being perfect, or fit a different gearbox speedo drive gear to get it a bit closer that way if its possible. Otherwise its the massive expense of changing diff gears... but if you like it's gearing then the only way is changing the speedo drive gear or getting used to it.
Cheers!
