Took the Patrol down to the local Nissan Dealer this morning with no appointment or warning, to have an engine noise checked out (see earlier post from yesterday). After a short wait in the service department lobby I was told that someone from the workshop would be out shortly to investigate. The tech had a quick listen and was still not certain where the noise was coming from so he took the wagon out to the workshop where they did some further diagnosis. He came back and told me that the belt tensioner bearing had gone and if they had the required parts in stock they would fix it while I waited, quickly adding "under warranty of course". Three quaters of an hour later I'm driving out of Kerry's Nissan in Darwin with a new belt tensioner, new drive belt, a very quite engine bay and a very satisfied look on my face. Well done Kerry's, keep up the good service.

There are some good ones, "Maryborough Nissan" in Queensland are another one, have been there a couple of times un-anounced and can"t fault there service.

Love the cars, hate the dealers, at least the ones in the Northern Suburbs of Melbourne.

Will never ever have my car serviced by Nissan again.

Glad to hear you had a good experience.
I have had similar pleasant experiences with Nissan Service.

What I find more pleasing is that you took the time to let people know about a positive experience.
I hope the pleasure is returned and you keep smiling. :0)

Was it a very dry bearing sound which goes away when the engine has warmed up.
When we did our Kimberley trip in 2006 we went to the nissan dealer in Kununurra to ask what the multi function sensor light ment & was told to come back in 2 weeks. I then worked it out myself that it was a blocked fuel filter from bad fuel from Rabit Flats on the Tanami Track.

G'day Mark,

Not until the noise had been taken away did I realise how loud it actually was, guess it had been creeping up for a while. I think that now it's gone I would have descibed it as a dry bearing noise at idle but a fair old scream whilst bringing on the revs. Didn't change with engine temp or running time though.

Cheers,
Heefers

Out of interest does anyone know what bearing is fitted to the pulley? for the sake of a couple of bucks it would be worth changing say every 40,000kms. And could save a lot of heartache given where it sits and the crap it has to deal with, mud water etc.

Check it up on the Patrol forum, I remember reading about it the other day. It had part numbers for a NSN Bearing to suit.
