Sounds like a typical Windows system, after a few months everything slows down things won't open. This is the main reason I gave Windows away about two year ago and install Linux Ubuntu and have not looked back since. The best part of all is that it is free and far superior to Windows, but yes stick with Windows I suffered for ten years before I made the switch.
Then remember there are all those viruses and security issues in Windows which you don't have in Linux and yes don't forget to defrag your hard drive this is require in a Windows system but something I have not done in Linux for two years.

Is it when you open Outlook express you get the message or does OE not open and windoze is looking for it .
You must give us a specific description of the problem to get a reasonable fix for it

Who is your internet provider
Go to your internet providers home page and go to webmail and read it from there and then do the following

Go to outlook express/tools /accounts/properties and check all the settings.
Write down the settings on the connection page if you arent familiar with them

In the advanced pane click the box "Leave a copy of messages on the server".
This will mean that you dont lose any if you delete them by mistake.
However you will have to go into your webmail and clean it out once a month or so depending on how much mail you get.
IInet gives me about 500 before it bounces them back.

If you dont mind losing any that you have u can go into Control panel/ ad remove progs. On the left go to add remove windows components.
Go down to outlook express and unclick it. This will uninstall it COMPLETELY messages contacts and all Restart and go back to same palce and click it This will reinstall it hopefully in a working condition. Do the leave copy bit again

If you want to retain the messages and settings and contacts Email me and I will send you a program called Outlook express backup & restore This will save all messages and contacts.

I cant tell you where to get it or I would have to kill you

In My experience your problem is Outlook Express. It doesn't handle attachments very well. Upgrade to the full outlook that comes with Office and you'll have no more problems.

Yes Doug, I know it works for you, just passing on my experience..

Hi Uno - I also had to solve that problem.
Solution : When you click on an attachment (eg a file such as a document or picture or PDF etc), the Email Program needs to know what application (program) to use to open that file.

I use Thunderbird as my Email program, and under OPTIONS - click Attachments, then click VIEW And EDIT actions. Here you will see a list of file types, and the program you want EMAIL to use, to open them.

I expect all email programs would have a similar function...Keith

Hi Paul,
Just a quick thought,
are the attachments in the winzip format.

eg. for example "picture.zip"

or some other sort of compression software, winrar etc.

or maybe a imaging software that cannot be opened by your default imaging software ?

Maybe you can describe the attachment name?

William

If you mean that you can't open attachments, then that is a different thing to being not able to open email.

I suspect that the problem is with attachments that are actually MS Word documents.

The problem occurs when you try to open MS Word 2007 documents with an earlier version of MS Word. If the file extension is .docx rather then .doc, then that is the problem.

Solution: 1) upgrade your version of MS Office to 2007
or
2) Ask the sender to save the documents in an earlier word format, or save them in .rtf format

If word documents are saved in .rtf format, any version of MS Word can read them.

I have seen quite a lot of this problem lately.

Hope this helps

Regards
Mike

You can also install Open Office and then install an add on that will read Docx files. Why pay MS Hundreds of dollars when Open Office is free and does the same thing.

Hi Ozboc,
I've seen what happens when a search is done for a crack and then the computer is taken over by a some virus. If you want to get everything for free and it all works without security issues, try Linux
