Hi all,

Reading about our young spainard cycling friend brings back memories of another cyclist - Robert Bogucki. Setting off into the desert on his bike from near Sandfire Roadhouse he made international headlines almost a decade ago. I still remember the breaking story - Mans bike found abandoned near edge of desert.

I remember being absolutely glued to the TV screen and the papers at the time. I still have a poster of him somewhere.

Remember the cigar smoking American rescuer - Garrison St Claire and his team of dogs. Some people even knitted shoes for the dogs so they didn't get sore paws walking on the spinifex.

Bogucki lasted 40 days and 40 nights, almost biblical really, before being rescued. It was the media who found him in the end. It was the best Outback Adventure story of my life and has yet to be bettered.

Cheers
Alan

Surely not.

Our police were looking for him for about 12 days. They wouldn't like a hoax.

Sandfire ? Then that would have been the start of the Kidson. I remember that story, more like a circus from memory.
No wonder the bike was thrown away. Some bulldust sections on that end were pretty heavy going a couple of years ago.
I can't imagine trying to get across there on a bike, you'd have to carry it a lot of the way.
That's definitely camel country, not push bike country. Certainly not in October without any support.

But they wouldnt have even been there if it wasnt for the personally funded search team by his dad
