Can anyone tell me what the QAA line from
Birdsville to
Poeppel Corner is like. Would it be an area to take an ofroad trailer along.
This trailer has been along a lot of very hard tracks but not sure about this track. Thanks Mark R

From Birdswille to Big Red it is good
unsealed road. From Big Red to Poeppel corner
sand dunes. Soft sand on top and firm stuff in between, but may be lots of ruts. Some people carry trailers, but it became very slow exercise. In my personal opinion does not worth effort, but YMMV.
Cheers

YMMV = Your mileage may vary. In contents it means that you may value convenience of having trailer at
camping so much that you do not really care how long it takes you to bring damn thing there.

Mark, I understand that next year Desert
Park Passes will bar trailers on the Simpson next year. I was did that area back in July and the dues were cut up by people from the school holiday perdiod a week or so before who didn't drop their tyre pressures. It should be a requirement.
Despite Serg's comment above, the lower you go with tyre pressures the easier you will go in the sand, trailer and all! I had quite a heavy trailer when I went and low tyre pressures ;-)) I only had trouble twice and it was just a small tug each time.

Thanks John,
We are heading for that area in 3 weeks & was thinking of leaving the trailers in
Birdsville & then
camping out along the track.
We are going to check it out in
Birdsville if we do take the trailers & do a return trip south from
Poeppel Corner to the
Birdsville Track along the K1 line.
thanks,
Mark R

Mark, we did just the reverse, but prepared to drive out if we had much trouble.
We went in up the
Warburton Crossing Track, the K1 line,
Poeppel Corner then out QAA to
Birdsville with the rig as pictured in the Rigpic. There is a photo atop Big Red in my album. I had to be towed the last two metres of the vertical.

Mark, there are a few distances to cope with and we did it pretty easy with camps struck
well before dark to
cook with a minor exception. Camped at
Warburton River, 19km South of Poeppel, then west of Eyre
Creek, then
Birdsville after some play around Big Red.
The other answer for your Q was 2T approximately. All up over 5T

Lots of blow holes on the QAA line a few months back but otherwise ok. It was fairly quiet and hadnt been chopped up like the French Line had.

Hi Mark
I went from
Birdsville to
Poeppel Corner on 18th July, after talking to a
ranger at
Innamincka who told me up to 165 vehicles were using the QAA line daily.going west the dunes were not too bad but seemed to have large corrugations on the west side of the dunes, but it only takes a bit of wind to change that. I came down the K1 line no problems there I would think with a trailer, it runs mainly between dunes and along lakes.
Cheers
Russ

Was fairly easy at start of july for us towing a bike trailer with no bikes weighing around 500kg.
Actually , the most fun was before Big red as the lake across the road was still some 200m wide but no more than 1/2 meter deep so everything got a good wash and several vehicles who didn't drive straight down the middle required some assitance.

G`day Mark,
I went across from
Birdsville to Mount Dare and back on to the
Warburton Track last month.
Have a read of "
Simpson Desert Double Crossing Trip Report" in the
Blogs you might get a bit of info from that.
Go for it.

G'day Scrubby, I pinched an idea of yours to carry a pump, just in case. I didn't actually need it, but it was good to know it was there
