G'day All,
Heading over to fraser in a couple of weeks, can anyone tell me if
the beach around
hook point is open to traffic. We were hoping to go this way instead of the inland track.Have not been for a while and very much looking forward to some R&R.
Thanks

Yes. Assuming you mean heading North on the Eastern Shore. Heavily trafficed due to the barge, and at times soft. Always subject to the tide - they say 1 hour either side of low tide although if you're adventurous and run low enough pressures quite a bit more than this is doable.

Inland track is not too bad if you need to use it. But if you need to travel further up the eastern beach then you definitely want to be there at low tide anyway ... which means you can use hook pt.

Hi Don,
I was
camping around
hook point 2 weeks ago for a week & found we could travel around
hook point up to 1 hour each side of high tide. A lot of sand on the point but close in just east of the barge landing. Watch out for the large gutters just north of hook if they are still there.
cheers,
Mark R

like already said,
hook point is open and an hour either side of lowtide won't be a problem usually. i was up there for the fraser fishing expo a short while back and had to use the inland track from the barge due to it being nearly hightide when i got there. track is corrogated but in pretty good condition, 1000 times better then the old potholed goat track i swore i'd never drive again on that used to be there. i'd tow a good offroad camper trailer up the inland track, but wouldn't take a caravan or standard boat trailer or normal trailer up it. the corrogations would rattle them apart i reckon.
watch out for the reduced speed zones along
the beach, one is just as you go around
hook point, another is up at the maheno wreck. signs can be abit hard to see if your not looking for them, due to being right up on the top of
the beach so as not to get washed away.

Hi Don
Just back from fishing Fraser .On our way up to our
camping spot you were looking for the white line on
the beach as it was hard and flat. After a week and a few storms
the beach was as bad as Ive seen it we used 40lt's of diesel from
happy valley to the barge landing so many wash outs we lost count.Travel at close to dead low and take your time and all will be OK
