Once again I have the task of giving a FX324 mouth to mouth. A while ago I updated the firmware to my own unit with great success and the aus base map. I have a colleague involved with competition work and has a unit with no base map! When I connected the unit to my computer I may have deleted the firmware (or flashed the firmware) so now it boots into the main window and then a message of no base map installed, initializing upload.... and that's where it stops/hangs. Yep, it looks like my fault.
So, where can I download the replacement firmware? and possible direction on how to do this, just to make sure.
I would also consider the World Base map purchase, just to get him up and running again, (feeling very embarrassed)
Cheers........Rodd

Hello - you can download the firmware here
Discontinued Magellan products
though you may have difficulty uploading if the GPS continues with error message??
Also using a basemap created using World Wide Basemap software wont solve the missing internal basemap issue. The device needs the proper basemap as
well. Only legitimate solution is to send it to Next Destination. I would ring them first to see what they will charge. If the device is not a legitimate Aus sold model (ie US import) they will hit you for ~$300 for an Aus basemap...if it is a genuine Aus sold model then they may fix it for small fee.
If you have a copy of the Aus basemap it is possible to upload that into unit yourself (your post suggests you have already done this on your unit ?) but these things are best not spoken about on public forums as apparently it is, under certain circumstances, breaching copyright.
Cheers

Due to the discontinued support for the FX324, I have purchased the Global Base Map CD and genuine serial code, just in case I have problems in the future with this unit. This can replaced a corrupted file and get you back on track. The base maps come in handy for friends in need, nothing more.
and...... many thanks for the link to firmware software,

Many hours down the track...... the software has finally arrived! I received the latest firmware ie: 1.24c (2003, if that's called update) and the Australian Basemap.
The directions call for the internal memory to be erased to allow the new to be loaded without corruption. Sounds fair enough but when it's done a very different story.
I activated the menu, forced software update on the GPS and used Magup, expert mode and loaded from the computer via a serial cable to the FX324. Firmware first then the base map, then reboot of GPS
I am able to look at the different setting through the start-up menu system but the unit will not flash the Magellan logo or copyright screen before the normal menu system, IT'S BLANK!
I thought the firmware is the menu system and control of the unit, obviously not.
What the?
Is there a rescue procedure to recover or do I just start again?
Any suggestions???
Cheers........ Rodd
