Hi. I just received my new roo lite spotties and need some advice on locating the high beam wire for a Prado 02 model. The instructions mention locating the highbeam cable for the headlights and then cut the red wire into it. I have looked up the manual but it doesn't offer much. Can anyone tell me which wire I should be cutting into? cheers

Hi poppyg2, easiest way would be to start car (optional, depending on how long you are going to be?) and with a multimeter or test lamp, put your lights on and flick lights onto high beam, but be careful that you don't get your parkers, so you might need one other person to help, depending on where you are going to tap the harness!!!

depends on where you stick your relay, best to keep the relay close to the battery, so it would be a good idea to tap it close to there, then run your switch for the tap wire ( two pair[ figure 8]). Or a neater way would be to find the trigger wire near to the steering column and tap it there, then run your single strand 5 amp trigger wire to the relay, because by law you must be able to turn off your spotties, or do what i did for get the switch and use high beam and spotties if you have too!!!!

also too don't forget to fuse the trigger wire, and the tap wire, and your main feed from the battery.

I don't want a roasted poppyg2 on my mind always!!!!

please do a good job and NO SHORT CUTS as i almost burnt my car to the ground because i got lazy and wanted to do a re-wire cheap!!!!!

....I promise I wont fry myself or the car...The spotties came with a loom, switch, fuse, tap & trigger wire already set up. I just need to tap the high beam and its finished. I will try and find a multimeter, but it would have been a lot easier if the repair manual colour code wiring diagram matched whats in the car.

if the tap is a blue thing with two bits of metal in it, throw it away, there called scotch locks and last like 2 seconds. best way is to strip a bit of cover off the high beam wire about 3/8 of an inch or 10mm, which ever you prefer solder it in place and wrap a heap of electrical tape up and down about 2" 5cm, put a terminal on about 4", 10 cm of wire and connect into that so you can replace or remove units if you need to upgrade. if you have time solder all connections and tape/ heat shrink them all!!!

what vehicle do you have???

I have a 2002 petrol auto prado & no turbo. I think I will strip and put in a terminal so I can adjust if need. The wiring diagram is a very good help, so I need to have another read and see where it takes me. Thanks for your help so far. Its amazing the knowledge around.

take some 3mm twin wire from the headlight to where you want to mount the switch in one of the blanks on the dash, before you cut the twin mount the relay, solder the twin wire across the plug at the headlight( the vertical pins not the horizantal one).strip open the twin wire cut only one colour and join to the 85 and 86 terminals (coil of the relay) the other end goes to the switch terminals . then run 4mm twin to each of your spotlights, (87on the relay)earthing the lights to a good body earth, run power from battery(30on the relay) thru a 25-30 amp fuse and the job is done!!!!!!!!!!!
