G'day All
I have an OLD 40hp red band Mercury outboard (don't know exact year as ID plate is missing am thinking early 70's) i am trying to get going and am looking for spares or a whole motor to raid, Can anyone tell me of a good outboard wreckers place.
Also if all else fails does anyone know of a good place to get a secondhand 30-50hp electric start outboard with forward controls
cheers Nick

Where are you? There used to be an outboard wrecker in Yatala.

Pickles,
Last year, I wanted to do up our Aux. Motor and found that the shaft that drives the
water pump impeller was worn (rusty) and would turn the impeller, but leaked oil into the
water. 2 repairs shops told me to dump the motor, a third after being told that the motor had the top done up some years earlier and the motor had done little work since, suggested that I get the shaft chrome plated which I did and for around $150, I now have a good as new motor.

Without sounding to negative the only time i seen those redbands they were broken down at the
boat ramp.
If youve got the dough get something later.
Like doing up a 70s car, always breaking down or something to fix.
Cheers

I think you will find the red band motors go back to the sixties. I brought a blue band 1n 74 and they superceded the red band. The blue band was a great motor.
