Hi

I have a 1990 Mitsubishi Lancer 1.8 turbo diesel 4d65-t with a td04-09b turbo. I have just fitted an EGT gauge with the probe just after the turbo down pipe. What is my maximum safe egt please?

Thanks

Rough guess I would say 500c BUT there must be some where you can ring, turbo specialist maybe ?? and get exact range to operate in. I take it you are from overseas (not in Australia) as we dont have that engine here in a lancer. Regards Steve M

Most EGTs shouldn't go beyond 750C and most EGT warning devices will have the alarm set for 700C to 720C, i have mine set too 720C, on most trips with the camper on, i can cruise at 100 to 110 and the EGTs are around 450C, when climbing long hills it will go up too around 680C, too bring them down all you need to do is back off the throttle a touch and they will stablise and often start too go down.

It's amazing how just backing off a little or going too a lower gear and keeping a trailing throttle will cause the EGTs too drop(and while still maintaining your speed).

You just need to learn how too drive differently.

Conventional wisdom I have heard is max 720 pre turbo and 520 post turbo. The turbo can sink up to 200 degrees.

As you are post turbo, suggest 520 degrees.
