I wrote this post or something similar yesterday, however when I tried to submit it I got a message saying that I had to be “logged on” before I could do so. Well I had logged only minutes before. When I logged on again the post had disappeared.
Anyway I am having another go.
Wednesday last Jeff O and I did a trip to the Pyrenees Ranges to check out the area at Glenpatrick where the gathering is being held on 7th Nov.
Very nice venue with plenty of room and beautiful scenery, two toilets, a shelter shed complete with tables and a large fireplace, friendly Kangaroos and a variety of birds.
The best spot to set up now has a reserved sign on it so if you are going to the gathering and you were thinking of going early trying to get the best spot you are too late. We have appointed the old chap who lives next to the reserve, he is 91 years old, caretaker of OUR reserved area. Hahahaha----ha ha.
We had a look at the tracks on from Glenpatrick that went over the range, they are very steep, badly scoured and very slippery after recent rain.
We did however go a different route over another range and came out at Moonambel we then went to Barkly where we met a bloke doing some detecting looking for gold.
He said he didn’t know Willem. LOL.
Over another range and down to Redbank, across to Dunolly and Tarnagulla then home through Newbridge and Marong.
We met another bloke camped in a nice area on the old gold diggings between Dunolly and Tarnagulla who was also prospecting, he had been there 5 months and has had a reasonable amount of success. There were others in this area prospecting but we never got to speak with them.

Scrubby.

Scrubby,

It looks like I may see you there then.
I am now looking for a passenger to come down there with me. Sam doesn't want to do the trip and the other person I had in mind can't get time off work.

So are there any takers to join me on a trip to the Pyrenees, at this stage I'll go from Calliope via St George, then south.

Cheers Kev

G'day Scrubby, we last year mowed the area near the toilets and the shelter with a heavy duty mower. No doubt that will destroy any signage erected. LOL

I think we may take a 1000 litre water tank with us too and fire pump to put out stray fires.

Glad you enjoyed your trip and the district, we think it is a pearler. Willem isn't well known yet for his gold discoveries, but his time is to come.

Did that last year mate, not again hahaha

Like to try and do something that people would maybe learn something out of, maybe fitting chains or a winching demo? Safe use of chainsaws?

I though GPS use would be fun IMHO not many ppl know about datums and stuff
