I've been reading over some old threads about insurance. I'll be on the road for the next 6 mths and want car contents , ambulance, rfds? while I'm traveling and doing a bit of prospecting . I don't have house insurance, and see domestic travel luggage insurance is limited to $5000 for three months. I'm with aami. Can I get another $5000 for contents with my them? I'm asking here first so I don't make the mistake of giving them too much info and disqualifying my eligibility.
As for ambulance, if I'm going from state to state, how does that insurance work?
I'm with RACV roadside assistance, are they affiliated with nrma etc? Or do I need a different insurance when I go off road?

Dave,
Just check with AAMI and make sure you are covered if you are on a track which is not listed as a public road. Australian 4wd insurance and others cover this aspect. It also covers the fixed additions (HF radio, Roof Rack, spot lights etc. I have found that it is very expensive to try to insure the contents of the car to the extent that I will cop it on the chin if someone knocks off the GPS.

Cheers

Hi David

First up,tell the Insurance company the info they require, dont hide
any thing, they will find away to renig on a Claim, if the need arises,
tell them you are going off road, you will pay a bit extra but have
peace of mind,
As far as I know RACV / NRMA & RACQ ect are affiliated.

Cheers

Thanks Blue one, Daza. I've got more than a gps to lose if someone swipes the car or breaks in, camping etc. so I need to be able to recover a reasonable amount in the event.
Daza, I was reading in another thread on here, from a few years back, car assitance insurance covers all travel except if you're on a competition track, in a race or the like. What I'm mainly after is contents insurance though. I'm rent sharing so don't have house insurance to cover.

And how does ambulance insurance work when you're traveling? I haven't used ambo insurance before, but suspect it could be wise now.

Hi David

I would suggest you ring DGA insurance and get a quote on all things fixed and contained within your vehicle. They are very competitive and cover you anywhere.
RACV has reciprocal rights with the other state and territory motoring organisations.
Same goes for you ambulance subscription, but a phone call to check would cover your doubts.

cheers
