Evening all.
I have to get a bit of welding done on the caravan. My young bloke is bringoing his little MIG around to do it.
Can anyone tell me if I have to take precautions like disconnecting the batteries or anything else to avoid damage to the televison, DVD player etc in the van?
Thanks in advance.
Jeff

I always disconnect the batter when welding, also watch out for any transfer heat up through the floor.
keep fire extinguisher handy.
cheers shane.

Hi
The most important thing is to make sure you have a bright metal suface ON THE PART YOU ARE WELDING & put the earth clampTHERE[ as close as possible], also unplug the tv aerial , ,if you have bats in the van disconnect earth cable

Just in case he don't know, if welding on the A-Frame or along the chassis , do the weld along the frame only, not across , that avoids cracking,

And check for any electrical wiring running through the chassis that can melt with the heat,, Nav.

Thanks for the replies.
The welding is not on the frame but is on the gerry can holders either side of the gas bottles. Just a couple of brackets to mount a frame to carry a space case.
Batteries and TV aerial disconnect will be the go. And, of course, will remove the gas bottles.
Cheers

any scientific evidence out there? Many years ago there was a problem with alternators but not for many years since. So I was told by a techie. If I had any doubts I would go to the experts and give this forum a big miss unless the info is backed up with credentials.
