G'day Dave. My neighbor worked for a dealer previously. When I bought my Adventra I asked him about the paint protection. He said it is one of the biggest ripoffs in the car sales business. In fact he said that selling paint and upholstery protection was a bit of a competition between the sales guys to see who could get the most for it. Needless to say, I didn't get it. He also said that he could get me a tube of the paint cream for $40. Enough to do my wagon and my boat.

I really have no idea but common sense made me think, would a company let a cars paint work fade after 4 or 5 years ? its not a good endorsment for a car dealer aye but then I dont know, I'm thinking can you do it yourself ? having been ripped off in life more than a few times I'm just trying to prevent it happening again,
regards,
Dave

The other thing he mentioned that when he worked as a spray painter (that he is by trade) they hated the stuff. Apparently it's like a kind of Teflon/Silicon coating. These days cars have very good paint coatings with UV stabilisers and so on.

Hi Dave
Personally I wouldn't bother, I had it done once on a new car and they did more harm than good as they buffed the paint before applying the paint protection and it ended up you could see the swirl marks from the buff.
You are better off buying some decent polish, such as Mothers or Maquires and doing yourself.

Its a bit of a misleading description really as paint protection conjours up some thoughts of it putting a hard coating or something on it.
It is as someone suggested a Teflon type coating which is just a polish. The same result and protection can be had by using a good quality polish like Meguiar's from when you get the car.
If they came out with a protection that stops bird bleep eating into the paintwork then that would be worth it.
the car dealerships use this sales pitch as a way to get some profit back into the car. We tend to
shop around to get the best price on the car and screw everyone and then when we
sign up we let our guard down and
sign up for full retail on all the extras.
You can't blame the dealers because they have to make some money. A few years ago the only money made was on the accessories and finance and insurance etc because of the competitive nature of the market.

The other thing that has happened to me twice now is with window tint. I was asked if I wanted tinting, to which I flatly said no. It was around the $800 last time. So the day I'm due to pick my car up I get a call saying they "accidentally" tinted my glass. They asked me if we could share the cost of their stuff up. I said "no, bad luck. You can take it off if you like but I'm not paying for any of it". So I got free window tinting, to some extent.

Hahaha , incredible isn't it, they gave me a list of "optional" extras too which came out at nearly 2 grand more, its mentally taxing on the old brain cells when all you want to do is go home, I'd love window tints but there is a budget we're not loaded but we can afford this much,
glad you got a result Louie,
hoping they try that one with me LOL..............

Wheel and deal big fella, get them to throw in the window tinting for free. Never ever pay for extras like that. At the very least get them to throw in the tint and a good set of floor mats. If the salesman tells you that that's $xxxx.xx amount of extras and he can't do it, remind him that is the retail amount that you would have to pay, not the trade price that it costs the dealers to throw them in. They're making enough out of the sale itself without bending you over for the extras.

When we Purchased the Nissan Patrol recently, they put the same
question to us, about the Paint Protection, I said to them, it's bad
enough that you want to charge us extra for the Metalic Paint, now
you want us to get Paint Protection too, isn't the Paint Job any good
I thought it was covered in the Warranty,
We have had several New Vehicles over the years, and have never had it done.
Cheers
Daza

Not long bought a new vehicle myself.
The salesperson was my sons brother-in-law. His recommendation!
Don't waste your money. Use a good quality car polish every couple of months.

I dunno, I never believed in the paint protection racket, advised daughter against it when she bought new. Then I bought a SH Navara STR which had Wynns paint protection applied by previous owner. Its bluddy magic. Wash the car once a year if it needs it and
water just beads like it was just waxed!! Or just go for a drive in the rain (we still get it down here in SW Vic) and it is all clean again !! Bird sht just dissapears with the rain too. Hard to understand I know, but I assure you this Wynns stuff works ! Not allowed to use any thing that contains wax or polish or use a car wash or the 10 year warranty is voided. No afilliation etc., just an amazed owner of a car that has been treated. I know all the sceptics out there are gonna have a laugh at this but thats their loss, I assure you.
