I recently visited Lake Baramba and found that the
Yallakool Tourist Park was closed. Nevertheless we were given permission to stay in the parkland adjacent the
park conditional upon a donation to the Murgon
Information Centre and that our van was fully-self contained.
The
park has been closed since May 2007, however the council is currently performing work for a re-opening on Saturday 20 September 2008.
Just thought I'd let everyone know as it is a nice spot to spend a relaxing few days, the dam is also fairly
well stocked with fish from what I was told.

Yes you're not far away, I'm at
Pomona so it's pretty close for me too. We had the place to ourselves, there's no caretaker there at the moment. The council is doing some major work on the sewerage system, apparently it had a major malfunction last year and the Murgon council didn't have the funds to fix it that's why the
park was closed.
From what I was told if it wasn't for extra $ through amalgamation the
park probably wouldn't be opening again.
There's suppose to be a fishing comp there at the beginning of October, pretty sure it's the first weekend.

The Murgon council actually sold it, but when the amalgamation came in they squashed the sale. There was plans for a relocatable retirement village there in the past, be a nice little spot to retire to.

Yes I did hear that apparently the fellow who bought it was going to spend big bucks to redevelop it but apparently the sale was illegal as it wasn't the council's to sell!!
It's a bit of a pity really as I was told by one of the locals that when the
park was running it was a bit of a goldmine. Anyway it will be up and running again shortly and it would certainly be a top spot for a retirement village.
