Just in case anybody was wondering, I went to Adelaide today and collected the Chev-Nissan from Chassis Tech.

They've done a great job (well it looks the business to me; not that I'm an engineers backside...lol). Both sides as well as the tops of each chassis rail have been strengthened for a length of about 450mm on the arch of the rear end. In addition, the spring towers have had strengthening added around the inside circumference and have braces added fore and aft and extra strengthening added at the joins where the tower meets the chassis.

Now all I've gotta do is get the whole thing bolted back together! hahahaha

G'day John,

Pretty hard to determine where the repairs are...it's all painted black and "hidden" behind all manner of other stuff.... but I'll see if I can take some piccs tomorrow or so.....

Roachie.

If you require suspension upgrades in the future, I know a team that may be able to help.
See photo below and in "My Profile".

Clad to see the problem repaired. Very scary when you think what could have happened.

Good to hear it is all fixed.

So,

Next question is - what is now the weakest point???? :o))

You will just have to do some more trips to find out.

G'day mate,

Well, I know there still has to be a weak point somewhere I spose..... but I'm working on the basis that:

a) I've reduced the weight by at least 200kg by cutting out the chequerplate off the tray, the headboard and the LPG tank. WRT the LPG, I must say that I drove the Patrol back from Adelaide yesterday with the old commodore on the back of the car trailer and she performed the task as well as I would have expected if the LPG had been connected..... so I'm considering not bothering getting a smaller LPG tank and may just do away with the fumigation set-up altogether (I'll reserve my decision until I've done some more numbers).

b) the Patrol is 8 years old and has done 215,000klm on the speedo (......it's probably actually more like 240,000 due to the bigger tyres affecting the odometer) before it failed, and that was using the standard chassis. That's 8 years. Now, considering the chassis has been jazzed-up, I should at least be able to expect that it will be good for another 8 years (+ hopefully), by which time I may have decided to upgrade to a Toyota 60 series!!!! LOL

Cheers
