I heard a rumour that Wollogorang Station has closed that track to the public.

Maybe you could give them a call on (08) 8975 9944

Cheers

We went through that way in May and yes Wollograng is closed. Hells Gate is also closed but you can still camp there for $20.

Worked on a property in that area in 2005. Wollogorang closed its tracks to the coast (supposedly due to rubbish left by campers!) and thus also its one to the west. We have been to where that track would cross the Calvert, a number of times, and no track coming from the Wollogorang direction is evident at that point. It is a real pity that the Wollogorang coast track was shut as the camping on the Gulf there was magic. It is the old story - a few totally selfish campers spoil it for the rest of us.

thanks wendys. that was valuable information. and yes it is a shame that a few weekend warriors spoil it for the rest of us. you would have thought that going all that way there wouldnt be any of those sorts of people. we've had our favourite camping site closed also because of people coming up and leaving rubbish around etc. i dont blame the property owners for shutting it all down.

John, noticed from a previous post your question re going north from gulf track to coast.....Seven Emu Station used to allow campers to access Robinson River mouth or nearby (for a fee). Not sure of situation now - might be worth further investigation

Interesting that the reason for track closure at wollogorang was that rubbish was being left behind.
must be lots of rich 4x4'ers
when we were there in 2000 he was charging a $20 track fee and also a $80 rubbish bond fee. you had to bring back your rubbish to get your $80 back.
cheers

Agreed we were there the year they closed. There was rubbish there but it was all from many decades ago. We saw no new rubbish. There was a heap of trawler netting on the beach. Plus the amount of rubbish around the old outstation on the beach was shocking. Must have been a cyclone that tore the place apart. Now if they were really worried about rubbish they should have cleaned that place up. Again saw no recent rubbish at either end of the beach.

Found them both, especially the wife to be very rude. Either they've had run ins with others or that's just their attitude. My gut feel was that she was just natually arrogant and rude. Big call but I very nearly walked out when she started her crap when my wife asked a couple of minor questions. She asked about the rules of the property so we could follow them. When looking at the property employees conditions there attitude made sense.

The beach was ok. Nothing special. Beach front was very windy with little shelter. Western end had tree cover on a river. Stacks of sand flies. The eastern end had min to no tree cover and much smaller river. That's were the crabs were during our trip. Met a great couple at that end who had similar thoughts and cut their visit short. The other end met the campers from hell.

In reality you won't miss not going there. It's a gulf beach like many others. Very ordinary owner's attitude. The camp site attracted total yobo's, hell bent on drinking themselves mindless and making pricks of themselves. Ok so I'm critical but it's one spot on my top 10 worst spots in N.T. and can't think of more than a couple to add to the list.
