I need your help. I picked up my Toyota LC200 some months ago and I have still not managed to find a decent rear tow bar. I know Toyota Australia is equipping vehicles for your market with a proper bar as standard. I have also managed found out that it is coming from Toyota Japan.

Can I ask you kindly get some photos of the tow bar installed as standard on your lc200’s. Even better if any of you have a parts catalogue, give me a copy of the page with different parts needed for the bar. I need something to convince the local Toyota distributor that the parts exist and that they at least should get it here as an accessory.

Please post on the forum or send me a mail: towbar (at) kristensson (dot) nu

In Australia the towbar is actually part of the chassis. We remove a plastic cover and the hitch receiver is visible. Then we simply insert the hitch itself.

Photo is lifted off the Toyota website.

Can't claim to be a good photographer unfortunately.

Whats wrong with the Toyota product, I have always ordered my Towbar at the time of buying the vehicle. Why.? Because I prefer the OEM installation over many of the after market jobs and also because of convenience.

It's interesting that the Original Poster is not in Australia (maybe Scandinavia??). His LC200 may not get a towbar built into the chassis.

Here are some photos of LC200s in overseas markets. I think this is in the Middle east but not sure.

No towbar, built-in winch, no rear airfoil thingy and a swingout tyre carrier.

Don't you wish we had a list of boxes to tick so that we had a choice as well?

Gone Bush, you are right on both your assumptions. :-) I’m actually originally from one of the Scandinavian countries but for years I have been living in Dubai. My LC200 does not have a tow hook. It sounds stupid, but that is how the cars are sold here. You buy the most ideal towing vehicle but you cannot even find a tow hook...

It was then I found the photo on the Toyota Australia page how lucky you are over there (and how unlucky we are). I have tried to get in contact with Toyota Australia to find out if I can get one shipped here, but no luck. Now my hope is to convince the main distributor to bring the same here to at least offer it as an accessory. But to do so, I will need photos / drawings of the items they will need to import. As I have no plans to go to Australia in the near future I tried my luck to ask you if you could help me with photos / drawings.

I also prefer OEM installations. If I could have got the tow bar installed on my car on delivery, I would have added it. No discussions!

The fact that the towing arrangements are provided as standard over there as well as in Europe makes it very difficult to find aftermarket products. The market over here is far too small for any series company. All accessories here are imported primarily from Australia and South Africa but also from Europe.

I do not have permission to post pictures but my LC has Middle East specs and are equipped similar to the one in the previous post with the swing away spare wheel carrier.

Martin,

On another site http://www.lcool.org/forum/
which you have to join to read the posts, a member discovered that he could buy the steering wheel audio controls (from our Sahara) and fit them to the VX (which didnt have them).

This is because the wiring loom for the switches was already in place and it was plug and play.

I mention this because it may well be worthwhile looking behind the plastic on your vehicle where the towhitch receiver would be and see if it is actually there. After all, it is part of the chassis.

If it is, then all you have to do is order the actual hitch, cut out some plastic, and whack it in.

Here's hoping.

Also Martin, on LCOOL, there are a couple of members who have the Toyota Service Manual on CD. If you join there and ask for one of them to look up the towhitch on their CD they may be able to give you everything you want:

diagrams, part numbers etc.

cheers

Martin

The Tow bar is built in to the last cross bar in the chassis. It could be that your LC already has the ability to take a tow bar as standard but the plastic bumper covers it for cosmetic reasons. I can't imagine that Toyota would have 2 variations of the chassis.

Take a look under the vehicle, you should be able to see the slot int he rear chassis rail from where the spare is.

slightly OT... If you order a 200 (here in Oz) do you have to tick a towbar option (to get them to remove the plastic cover!) or do they 'throw' a towbar in the deal?

Nige.

The plastic cover comes gratis.

You have to order the wiring loom and the hitch.
