I have heard that installing a "dump pipe" to the turbo gives better everything. That, plus a larger diameter exhaust system, should make my Nissan 2.7L turbo diesel perform better. Is this correct?? and is it worth the expense??
I'd rather hear from the experience of a larger group than just "one man's story". (Not that his story is neccessarily invalid of course)
Does anyone in Brisbane know where I can get the best deal??

Oskar, the dump pipe you are referring to is actually the exhaust pipe as it exits from the turbo. Often the manufacturers dump pipes are of small diameter and quite restrictive. Most turbos seem to benefit from a pipe diameter of 2.5" (64mm) to 3.0" (76mm) diameter and often the diesel turbo's can be run without a muffler as the turbo itself is quite efficient in silencing the exhaust.
The larger dump pipe actually allows the turbo to spool up faster and thus boost comes on quicker and it gives a better throttle response.
It's probably the cheapest way you will improve your diesel performance, your next step then if you wanted more power is to go for efficient intercooling but this is expensive.

Thanks Andrew
Now that tou mention it, a friend of mine fitted an intercooler that he got from the wreckers ($150) to his 2.5L diesel Paj. It came of a 2.8L something or other but he reckons it works a treat.
I think I'll have a look at both options.
A 4by can be a money pit can't it.
