Had a question to ask Garmin regarding warranty before buying one of their GPS machines, spent 2 hours and 21 minutes on hold over six calls today with no answer?
Does anyone know if Garmin Australia actually exists?
TIA
Richard

As from 1st July 08 Garmin operates in Australia under their own guise. Previously they were distributed by GME.

Hi Richard,
also have an email to Australian Garmin support re some problems with my brand new unit. They definitely don't seem to be in too much hurry to respond. Seems to be pretty ordinary in some areas with the "car" quite some distance off the "road" on the screen. Got an email response from someone in Garmin Europe that was so far off the point it was laughable. I responded to that and am still waiting.
My other unit is from Kogan. I get very fast and concerned responses from the Kogan support. Last time was to do with a poor quality map update and they refunded half the money and promised a free fix. (Mind you I haven't got that fix yet either.)
Anyway I hope you do get an answer soon.
Rgds

Try changing the "car" to the little arrow and it should be "On the road"
When I turn
mine on the little car is sitting in my garage and not on the road. LOL
I usually just use the arrow.

Thanks Guys.
I ended up ringing GPSOZ and got and answer to my question within 30 seconds.
I need to know if I warranty was covered by buying a 276C from eBay, answer was a big fat no!

Warranties are generally a transaction between the purchaser and the seller, buying anything off eBay ( or other online sellers) can be an issue, particularly if the seller is overseas. It's up to the seller to take up any warranty claims with the manufacturer on your behalf. Some comapnaies are better than others at dealing direct with the end user.

Buying anything off Ebay that is not through a licenced Australian distributor will more than likely not have a warranty.
Eg stuff from Hong Kong like Cameras, watches and electronics.
Exceptions may be camera lenses which frequently have a world wide warranty. At least my Nikon ones do but I bought them from a Nikon Dealer in USA.

Hi
Telephone number in Australia for Garmin is 1800 235 822.
After having the problems everyone else is describing, I was lucky enough to find the above number on another
forum.
I found them to be very helpful and more than happy with the support once I got hold of them.
Good luck.

Hi Graham
The problem I was referring to was in contacting Garmin and getting a reply. My reason for contacting them was to obtain the update for City Navigator 2009.
I was entitled to an update but it could only be downloaded if you had broadband and not dialup. I have dialup.
They were very helpful and sent it to me on a disc.
These links may be of some benefit to Garmin users.

Yep, mate had same problem but he came here and we updated it in no time.
As you say you need broadband these days as the servers time out after a while.
