Hi All
Just wondering if someone can recommend some suitable sleeping bags - where to buy and $$$$. Requirements are:
Adults - can be zipped together to form a double - queen
Adults - larger than normal (my other half is 192cm)
Adults and Kids - Suitable for summer/winter
camping (in SA) - will possibly take a blanket as
well (any reccomendations for that would be great.
Pack up reasonably compact
Thanks
Cheers
Tara

Anaconda have a good range and have sales on at the moment and I just got a notification that Ray's Outdoors has 20% of everything this weekend. Have used the Anaconda bags and they are excellent. Depends on what state and location you're in I suppose. Cheers

Crikey Tara, you've hit a topic close to my heart since way back when
But, and I insist BUT, your arse must be off the ground , and also insulated from beneath . Sorry mate, no more input. That cretinous ad to the right of the screen has put me just so off.
Sad, eh.
Jeff.

Have a look at the Coleman
Pilbara range, they are extra wide and non tapered.
Tapered sleeping bags are better for extreme low temp and non tapered are good general purpose bags.
We have the Pilbaras in our swags and went to them because the size and comfort.
We were quite happy to spend $400.00 on a good sleeping bag but talked out of it by the sales guy at Anaconda, the Pilbaras are about $100.00
We got ours from Anaconda.

We have 2 sleeping bags each - one lightweight for summer, one heavy weight for winter and use both together for the real sub zero cold.
Ours were cheapies but we have never been cold - and they can be zipped together to make double bags. As we are both on the larger size of normal, we also make sure that they are not tapered and big enough for us, there are varying sizes of bags, especially in the cheaper range.
You can spend a lot on money on sleeping bags and in our experience, it is not necessary unless you have special circumstances such as back packing or carrying them on your back. They do not take up much room, especially the light weight ones.
Sorry, cannot tell you the make of ours as they are currently 600km away at home and it is so long ago we bought them (probably Kmart or similar)

Have a look at Roman sleeping bags
I have two Roman Bushman bags one is zipped on the left and the other the right.so you can join them together
They are a very large bag, i find them an ideal size you have enough
room to move about with extra clothing on in the very cold conditions.
rated to minus 6 and ykk zipps.

A general word of caution with sleeping bags - There is no standard for temperature ratings for sleeping bags.
Some ratings are based on solely the sleeping bag, some with a liner and some in other arrangements. Each company does their own thing. When we bought Snowgum brand bags for the kids 6-8 years ago they got cold. Soon bought Roman and they have been warm ever since.
Look at the quality of the construction. The lining of the Snowgum bags were comfortable against the skin but tore easily.
