I am looking at buying a winch for my 2000 Land Cruiser ute and am wondering if anyone has used the TMax brand. I only need one in case of emergency but understand that it still needs to be reliable.

My car weighs around 2.85 tonne plus I pull a 4mtr tinnie on a trailer and was thinking a 9 or 10,000lb would do the job.

I have been looking around and can get a TMax for $7-800 compared to $2000 plus for a Warn.

Thanks
Daryl

Bricky,

i have a 9500 T Max in my 100 series. it is now 5 odd years old, only pulled it apart once to service it and it has been drowned in mud and water 50 times and its stil going. only ever had one problem with a solenoid but nothing a drowning in WD40 and a whack with the mallet didnt fix. i am due to replace the cable in it as it is badly kinked and starting to fray. value for money they are! it pulls my 100 series out easily so it will be no problem pulling a ute out. cheers Paul

Yep they are OK

I have a Brawn 9500, which is a T Max in disguise. It works well when needed. Paid a bit more than what they are advertised for these days as there is good competition amongst the Chinese made winches.

You could also look at an Ironman Winch.

Cheers

Yeh Willem that they are, but yours has chrome plating on the inside of the motor housing and O rings on the 2 ends. apart from that they are the same. apparently to stop rust forming in the motor to prevent shorting of the windings. prices! yep i paid $1100 for mine 5 years ago and my mate paid $1250 for his brawn about the same time. pity they went bust a few years ago. Paul

I had an issue with mine as the bloke who sold the Brawn brand in Melbourne took them apart and filled them with grease. The grease went hard in mine and interfered with the brake mechanism and let me down in the middle opf rescuing an idiot friend in in a mudpuddle. Took it apart and cleaned it up.

Cheers

Just a Toyota forklift with my T-Max using a snatch block that was included with the winch.

We tried with the recovery with diff lock and first gear low but just spun the wheels. No room to use a strap.

First time we have used it. I spray it with CRC every now and then as the sits out in the open.

Thanks for the replies.

I think I will go for the TMax 10000lb.
As I said I only need it in case of emergency when travelling north and hope never to have to use it.
If I still lived in Vic I would probably go for the Warn, as down there in the hills it would get a regular work out.

Thanks again
Daryl
