Hi all
I am interested in the"Little Robin Mini" pop top from Driftaway Caravans in Geelong. We are coming out of a camper (I am getting sick of packing up wet canvas!). I hope it will get a lot of off road (mostly out back) use and am particularly interested in the ability of the rear door to seal against dust. I have heard from others that rear door vans let in more dust. Also I am trying to find some specs on the little robin, (length, width, suspension type brakes, wheel size and cost), from what i can see it looks like it would need to be lifted and beefed up a bit. Dont seem to be able to fid much on the net, It would be great to hear from some owners (good and bad)
Thanks

If you like real small vans then thats your answer however the rear step is a real PIA. Check one out yourself.
Brother in law owns one and suits them well however they are consistently catching the step. Go the 12 footer if you can the 10 footer is just 2 small also the single bed option gives more interior space. And if you get friendly then the single bed is great.
I used to have a handle on life, but it broke.

Cheers Dodg.

Tracktrailers are launching a new 12 ? ft off road mini pop top caravan this week . It should be tough enough to handle the worst roadshttp://www.tracktrailer.com.au/Topaz/Topaz.html

I looked at the Little Robin as well , but I did not get a feeling of confidence about it's rough road / corrugation handling ability . I decided to get a 15 ft Phoenix Phase 3 built , but then a second hand 16' Bushtracker became available and I snapped it up . I would rather have something about 14 ft , but you cannot be too choosy when looking for a second hand off road van - they get snapped up very quickly.

G'day Blacky

A few years ago I was looking at a LRM, having had a canvas sided camper trailer some years previous and not wanting to go through that again...then I came across Avans and bought an Aliner and couldn't be happier with it. There are many different floor plans and models including an 'expedition' model with increased ground clearance. Driftaway Caravans were not helpful at all when I contacted them and would only send a very poor photocopy (double sided to save paper) of some very poor photos and when I asked for better photos and further info my request was ignored. This is what made me look further, so in reality they did me a favour.

There are several Avans on ebay at the moment...I just looked at them half an hour ago and NO I'm not affiliated with any of the sellers, nor do I know them. Just checked out of interest. If you care to give me your email address I'll send you an invitation to join an owners group (where I'm one of the moderators) and you can ask questions direct to owners, if you wish?

Wet canvas is a thing of the past and a low tow height/weight is fantastic. If I can help any further don't hesitate to get in touch.

Hope this helps?
Bronwyn ;-)

Don't worry about rear doors letting heaps of dust in. They do not.

We had a Viscount Nipper in the early 90s. We kept a small mat just inside the door. When we negotiated dusty roads there would be a small amount of dust on the mat. The dust patch was about the same size of the vent in the bottom of the door. The first person to open the door just removed the mat and shook it outside - housework was done and all the dust from the trip was removed.

All the others we met in the rear entry vans had similar stories. None had problems with their vans filling with dust. One was recalling of a number of vans negotiating 30 km of very dusty road, he did the flick the mat trick to clear the dust and then sat down and watched the rest of his fellow travellers spend the rest of the afternoon cleaning their side doors vans out.

If a rear door van suits your fancy - go for it.
