Howdy, recently had turbo fitted to my cruiser. Installer recommende I replace top tank of radiator and flush system, replace coolant etc. Got a quote to have the job done. But for an extra $240.00 can have the radiator replaced. Has done 160,000km, has been flushed and coolant replaced every 40,000km. Can't really see condition of radiator, though i suspect it is okay. Am leaning towards having it replaced for the extra dollars. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Get a replacement aluminium one as they dissipate heat a lot faster . After that have it properly flushed out (not just a bloody garden hose) and coolant replaced by a reputable radiator place every 12 months . Should cost about $150 for flush and replace coolant .

The only fully aluminium radiator and tank set up I found was $1300.00 A bit rich for a radiator. The manufacturer also told me not really much gain, just looks much better.

I needed to replace the radiator in my 1HZ Troopy at around 200,000 km while on a trip to WA last year, despite regular servicing. It was rather inconvenient at the time, but could have been a lot worse if big problems occur when you are somewhere really remote. I was told the new one was better than the original (Yeah I know, hardly likely to say it is worse)

So, at 160,000km I'd recommend a new one.

The main reason is that the top tank has a crazed appearance, apparently this can be a warning sign of the plastic tank failing.

I paid an extra 100 over the std to get a 4 core triple bypass and its ace. Radiators are like batteries as long as it drops straight in there is no such thing as too big.
