Fraser island and boat

Hi all,

I am going to fraser island for a week in october. Taking my 75 series cruiser ute.
Coincidentaly, i pick up my brand new boat this friday. It is a 4.4m sea jay pro (territory without side pockets) with a 40 hp four stroke yamaha.
My cousin and i are going there together and will be fishing a fair bit.
Will i regret not taking the boat with me once i am down there, or will the boat be a pain in the bum if i do take it?

Thanks for your helpful opinions.

Hi Brian

We took our 6 metre Rum Runner to Fraser and had Ball, we
took it over from River Heads, we only fished in the Sandy Straits
Area, and used the King Bay Fisher Resorts Barge Ramp to launch
the Boat.

Cheers
Daza

When we went to Fraser this time last year we saw quite a few boats on the island. One day we went up to Waddy Point. The track was very soft and rough. On the way back we passed 3 boats that had just been left on the side of the track. A few others had got through. But they were bigger than 4.4m. I presume the going was too tough for them. If you take your boat I would have thought on & off at Hook Point, and don't go past Indian Head, was reasonable advice.

If you can make it take the tinny across to Whatumba Ck on the western side of the island and launch from there, would depend on your trailer and weight of tinny i guess, great fishing just offshore from the creek mouth, (hooked a small sailfish there years ago whilst trolling for macs). There is no boat ramp but all just use the patch of beach near the camping area, the creek itself is mostly shallow and gets fished hard but can be productive... in the right weather you can have alot of the western side of the island to yourself
If you camp there take a bucketload of repellent , many guys trailer their boats over from there for day trips, the road crossing the island is not that bad but some of the going from indian head on can be a little soft... enjoy
