We have a hard floor 2005 Cub Campertrailer. We are having zip trouble around the door.

The zip will slide across and down but it is not joining together.

Just wondering if anyone can suggest where we could take it too in Melbourne please.

Thanks Julie

You can try wiping the actual zipper with a damp cloth to remove any dirt etc but it sounds to me like the actual slider is worn as that happened with ours. We replaced it ourselves by unpicking the top of the zip where it is sewn at the end, sliding the old slider off and a new one on. Then it is just a matter of putting a few stitches in by hand to keep the end of the zipper together.
We've done this repair twice now to our cub campers, the actual zipper itself is rarely the problem unless it has damaged or broken teeth.
Any canvas repairer will be able to do it if you don't feel capable of doing the replacement yourself.

I had a similar problem with my old camper and all I did was replace the slider and that fixed the problem.

From the camper manufacture or a tent maker, you'll need to get the correct size. I took mine back to the camper manufacture as there is a little bit of canvas stitching required at the top of the zip.

Julie,

I can strongly Rrcommend Dianne from "Casey Canvas Repairs" in Narre Warren.

If you need a new zip machined into it.....her work is excellent and her prices are ridiculously cheap.

Jim.

G,day Julie, i'm a canvas fabricator, i see this countless times, get a pair of long nose pliers and give the back of the slider a little sqeeze on each side of the pull tag, cause over the years all the pulling on the slider has caused it to stretch apart and the teeth don't mesh, don't sqeeze it to hard or you can break it, should take about 10 seconds to fix the problem.
cheers, Dave.

G'day Julie

As well as the good info Dave has given, clean the zipper teeth and slider with an old tooth brush, then spray with silicone spray, it's fantastic on zippers. If you don't have any silicone, rub a dry candle or dry soap on the teeth.

If you do a lot of dirt roads don't use the silicone spray as this will only make things a lot worse.
