Hello Forumites
With continuing shoulder problems, I am looking at ditching the roof racks on the Patrol, and going for an off road trailer to lug the Oztent and assorted
camping gear instead. I am finding it troublesome to get gear onto and off the racks these days. Afore ye ask, I am but mid 50's, but shoulders mean end of roof racks.
I seem to be having inordinate problems tracking down off road trailer makers in
Brisbane area, and wondered if EO punters had suggestions? Every one makes campers, but what about trailers????
Ideally, I'd like some of the strength that steel offers, without the serious weight that generally comes with steel. May as
well enjoy the difference offered by no more roof racks dragging through the air!
Have mused over Stockman trailers (poly stuff) and one or two aluminium versions of the species (have heard worrying tales about cracking), but feel that steel is probably what we'll end up with as we will I guess in time opt to have a camper conversion added when we get jack of tents.
What suggestions have learned colleagues?
Regards....Len

Hi Len,
Just a thought..... Try
Trackabout I think they're at Slacks
Creek. They make camper trailers but possibly might sell you a bare trailer.
Cheers
Brian

Len
Give Camel Trailers (Slacks
Creek) a ring on 1300788400.
If I had to do it all over again, I'd purchase the same trailer (Bushman) without the camper top, and replace that with a steel lift up lid.
Above the lid I'd install one of those roof top tents.
If you want to have a chat about it, give me a call tomorrow at work on (03) 97055467.
Regards
Kim

Hey Kim,
Did you find setting up the tent part too much rooting around. As you know I have also been looking for an off road trailer type set up and thought along the same lines as you, something quick for one or two travelling etc. Still haven't found what I want but have drawn up a few and then make alterations so go a step again.

Yer mate.
I'll probably flog the trailer shortly (some buggar is going to get a good deal). LOL.
Given quite a bit of thought to this as I've said above, but then started to consider those times when the weather go's bad and you’re freezing your balls off.
I'm talking to a fella up in QLD to develop a skirt to keep the cold air out from underneath the car. I'll add another wall to the awning that comes of the roof rack. This'll allow dog and I to have a 'half in an out fire' to warm things up a bit.
I'll order the same trailer again. But this time have the second spare on the trailer. There is no way I can throw a 40Kg wheel up onto the roof rack anymore.
Seems to me it’s easier to have things built in, rather than buggar around setting things up.
Regards
Kim

Hello Len,
I relate to your problem and suggest that you rethink the idea of purchasing just the trailer. I shall elaborate. The sides of an offroad trailer are generally quite high and this will affect your ability to load and unload heavy items from the side. Overstretching may aggravate your shoulder problem. It's not always convenient to access items stored at the front of the trailer from the rear door. I have an offfroad trailer that I use as a domestic unit and from time to time even I, a mostly fit person with long limbs have difficulty loading/unloading it.
I suggest you go with a complete camper trailer if that option is available as a properly designed unit - there are many made in Queensland - will provide a range of access options. I say this after lengthy experience with camper trailers; particularly the off-the-back and the hardfloor kind.
What of all that
camping gear you own ? I travel to and through
places where I will not tow my offroad camper eg:
Simpson Desert. When I do, I use a tent etc. until I can return to the camper.
Camping gear comes in handy even though you might own a camper trailer!
Cheers,
Netnut

The best solution: fix your shouldwer problem = Wobenzyme and/or Serrapeptase. Did it for me.
Good luck

Hi. Len
I have owned two Trailerworld trailers, both off road and galvinised and have been very happy with the quality and service provided by the company. Don't have their phone number but they are at Underwood in Logan City.
Regards
Rob.

Hi EO punters,
Appreciate the thoughts and comments, even that one relating to medication! Unfirtunately, the medicos will tell you that at 50+, shoulders take too long to recover, but I have not given up yet on surgery at some point.
In the meantime, I have had a chance to have some discussions with manufacturers of camper trailers who are willing to seel just the trailer, and we'll see where that goes.
You get the feeling that some of them don't want to do that and simply tell you grossly inflated $ figures to make you go elsewhere.
We'll get there in the end. Again thanks fellas.
Cheers....Len
