we extended the rear tyre carrier and put a couple brackets there to hold the motor horizontal

My thoughts exactly, will need plenty of silicon to seal it all up, might need additional floatation as
well.

This bracket looks the goods. I hope it is good as I have one on my new caravan (picked up yesterday), but have not used it yet. Might be overkill for such a small motor, but I guess you need a solution and this seems to be a good one.

Couple of short 'shake down cruises' over the next couple of months, including
Canberra in Nov.
Late Jan we plan on hitting the road for at least 12 months - probably much longer.
Lots of setting up to do on the vehicle before that.

Thanks for the replies. Anyone else got any photos of their outboard mounts.
(and yes 2 hp is enough to push a Jayco Dove across the murray)

johnnyD..... I have a mount for my 2hp johnson on the A frame. Just a post with a transom plate on top, clamped onto A frame with an extra jockey wheel clamp. Very simple. Have travelled many
miles with this. I put a cover on it when travelling.
Cheers mate.Image Could Not Be Found

Thanks that looks good. Is the post just welded? Strong enough?

The top of the post has a piece of angle iron welded onto it and a piece of timber is bolted to the angle iron to replicate a transom for securing the motor. I then tightly secure the mounting screws of the motor and lock them together with a padlock. As I said, I have travelled many
miles and all good. Very cheap to make mate.

Gday,
I hope this doesnt sound critical of your job Fred, cause it isnt meant to.
But that set up wont last with vibrations or off road.
Im not sure what your after realy.....you need nore gussets but be careful not to change the structure of your a frame at the same time.
How
well can you weld????
