I have a camper trailer (Cub Spacematic) with a 3 Lt Patrol as a tow. I am looking at a hot
water system for a shower set up. Don't like the solar bag thing much. Any experiences and suggestions would be appreciated. Regards Quentin

The easiest way is to boil a billy of
water and add it to a bucket of
water drop in a $20 dollar 12 volt shower. This system uses much less
water than other methods, as you can quickly wet yourself turn off the
water then lather up with soap turn
water back on and rinse. My wife and myself can both have a good shower with about eight litres of
water.WE used to use a 20 litre drum with a tyre valve fitted on the cap and a hose connected to the bottom this then went to a shower rose. A compressor was then connected and turned on. This system gave fantastic
water pressure but was also a great way to waste
water as we would use almost all the
water in the drum.
We used a black
water container and it was left out in the sun for the day to heat (sometimes to hot)

Get a Coleman Hot
Water system.
Very simple to use with a variety of uses.
Cheers Kev

The Boil-The-Billy/12volt-$20-pump system is the cheapest.... but the Coleman Hot
Water system is the most versatile and easiest to use!

It's
camping remember........boil the billy and hang the canvas bag in the tree or of your car.......no 12 volt problems or running out of Gas.
cheers

You can't go past a Coleman Hot
Water System. They are a touch of luxury when out
camping and very useful when you have two
young boys running around getting dirty!!!
I also read a
forum on here where people suggested using a pressure garden sprayer - heat your
water up and put it into sprayer for a wash down. I thought the sprayer idea would be worth a try if we didn't have the Coleman system.

If you have heaps of
water, go for the fancy showers.
If you want to use 4-8 litres per shower, use the $20 12V and a 8 litre crockpot. Heat up on fire or stove.
If you want to use 2 litres per shower (and take twice as long to shower), use a 4l Hills garden sprayer with cut down wand - billy of hot with 2 billies of cold usually does it.

Thank you all for your responses. I will have a look at the Coleman. I have talked to the people at Glind and received the normal stuff. We have used the garden sprayer when we lived aboard our yacht(recently sold). We painted the outside black and lashed it on deck and had a fairly efficient solar pressure hot
water system but probably would have problems in a dusty environment. Done the canvas bucket for many years also but need just that bit extra in advancing years. Thanks again and regards to you all. Quentin

We have a Glind and have used it successfully for years
it doesnt matter a damn what system you use to shower with..it is not the system that wastes the
water ...it is the user!.........be it Coleman, Glind or the hot billy!...we have susseccfuuly had a very refreshing sponge bath in an ice cream container half full when
water is scarse
We use the rose to wet ourselves...turn it off...lather up and then turn it on to rinse........doesnt need to use any more or less than the other posts / systems have suggested
at least the Glind sits under the bonnet and takes no room from elswhere and utilises the engine as a heat and power source.....does the Coleman do this?... I dont believe so

Having owned a Glind for 20 years I have to disagree somewhat on
water use. Each time a Glind system is turned off at the rose the
water in the hose goes cold while that in the heat exchanger near boils meaning when you turn it back on you must run it for however long your hose is before safely getting under again. As the engine runs at idle,
water flow is basically set to maintain the temp so can't be backed off much without getting too hot.
Where we did find it to be great however was you could shower 20 people one after the other. Have pulled it off the car now opting for a simple canvas shower bag instead.
PS: Not a fan of the Coleman's either. (but that's another story)
Cheers Craig............

Crackles...your comments are spot on re the heat generated when not circulating BUT why waste this
water whilst waiting for it to reach usable temperature again?...
all we do is to recycle it back into the bucket until the temperature is acceptable then use it............if the body of
water gets too hot we just turn the engine off and run the pump....still doesnt use more
water
I stick by my original comments...when the shower rose is running somebodys is under it (two if you get lucky :))
cheers bungarra
