Hi all
Just wondering how do you know if the bronze bushes in the front stubs on a 60 seris are worn and need to be replaced?
Have been told that if they are too worn they will allow axle movement and bugger the axle seals prematurly? But i have read the service manual and it makes no mention of checking them.
Does anyone have any knoledge in this area?
Regards
GN

I know the bushes you mean. They don`t usually sustain a lot of wear unless there has been a serious problem such as a collapsed wheel bearing, CV joint or something like that. If the bush is a fairly neat slide fit on the stub axle with not a lot of play they should be OK.

I agree with Nav 8, sound similar if not same to my 80 series part time 4wd, when i changed my front bearings (around 200k, now at 300k) the bushes looked brand new and were a good fit but if it was a full time 4wd 80 i would have been concerned......still no diff oil leaking thru
mine.....
Unless you have spent thousands of k's 4wding or with the front hubs locked on the bitumen they should be fine.
Might pay to ask a diff rebuilder their opinion, cheers
