i am looking at a set of kingstar tyres (30x9.5) at my local JAX. i can't remember the model number, but they appear to be an agressive all terain. they are asking $155ea fitted,so their cheap , but are they nasty?

I can't comment on Kingstars, but if you are looking for a GOOD, cheap, aggressive all terrain, look at Firestone Firehawk RMTs.
Since my debacle with Coopers, I have had 2 sets with absolutely no problems & couldn't recommend them highly enough!

They really aren't too bad, although I think they get a little noisier as they wear down, but it is certainly more than acceptable.

I forgot to mention, they seem to be very strong in the side wall.
