In
Darwin, thinking of taking SW back to east coast. Has anyone been on it recently? Thanks.

Just got back from
Darwin 3 weeks ago.
Came that way, SW, back to
Brisbane.
Had been told various stories.
Rough as hell, through to no problems.
We found it a typical 'outback ' road.
Some corrugations, some bull dust and some good streteches.
Well worth the trip if you don't mind dirt roads :o)
Rivers are down unless you get more rain.
Most are only 300 mm deep, maybe 500mm.
Have a good trip.

Loris,
We travelled that way mid August. As has been said there were some good sections and then some rough stretches with quite decent corrugations and some rocky stretches too but the grader had been working from
Roper Bar to Nathan River Station and was due to begin the next section late August we were told. It really wasn't too bad and there is some fantastic scenery out there. Good camp/lunch spot on the eastern side of the Calvert River - turn right on track almost at the top of the climb out of the crossing.
We went in to
Lorella Springs station, rough track in but nice hot springs to soak in and good amenities, we also camped at Butterfly Springs and Lomarieun
Lagoon and enjoyed them all. We got the key from the
Ranger and drove in to the
Western Lost City, takes about an hour and a half but is an easy drive and worth the effort. The
Southern Lost City is just 4kms off the road and is amazing too.
Borroloola Caravan
Park has the best hot showers! We camped at Kingfisher
Camp and that's good too and we came to there from
Lawn Hill which is one of the most beautiful
places and if you can visit, do.
We enjoyed our trip and hope you do too.
Viv

Good to see you back Vivien, and you had a good trip.
Sorry we didn't get to meet on the road.
We came through the SW late August heading south after having a few weeks in the top end.
Grader was working about 70k south of
Borroloola when we came through.
