Finding Wildflowers in WA

In this detailed article we explain how and why the state of Western Australia is world renowned for being the Wildflower State. We also list popular locations in each region where wildflowers are

To all those members who proffered advice on where to see the best wildflowers - thank you. We spent last week in the camper and the best places were :-

Mullewa to Yalgoo Road - awesome displays of everlastings etc

Goodlands Road off Great Northern Highway - Wreath flowers in abundance plus many other fantastic species on show.

This has been the best wildflower season we can remember in the last 28 years since we arrived in WA. If you want to see them, better make the effort in the next week or so as they will soon start to decline.

Its definitely a great sight to see so many out there. We went last year and there was basically nothing. This year is supposed to be one of the best for a long long time.

For those of you who are not fortunate enough to be able to get over here and see them, you can have a look at a short video that we took a couple of weeks ago up around Mullewa / Murchison.

Great Video, we will get there one day, we have just returned
from our trip to Cape York and planning has already begun for
our next trip, just have to toss a coin for which way we will go!!

Just lovely. Thanks Richard and Tracy. In a few days time we hope to head from Mt Magnet to Yalgoo with the hope of catching the display. I well recall as a tiny tot seeing carpets of white, yellow and pink everlasting around Morawa and Mullewa.

Which road would be best to take from Yalgoo?

Not exactly related to your post Old Mal, but in the same category. We live in Newcastle NSW and I have always wanted a Sturt's desert pea. I have made a few attempts at growing them from seed but whilst they germinate they won't grow & I have been told that the ridgy didge plants from the centre will not grow here on the coast.
Recently I discovered that a local nursery have some that have been grafted to stock that they say will do well in our area. I bought one & stuck it in the garden & it looks as if it will flower in the next couple of weeks.
If it does well I will get another & rip out the bloody rose my wife has growing & stick it in the vacant spot. I hope!! ( if she lets me??) LOL & cheers

Heading for Yalgoo in a few days or so. Plan is to go from Yalgoo to Mullewa with the hope of catching the display. I have looked up Goodlands Road but would be a bit of a detour in the other direction.

it sounds like you are heading towards the coast, but...

if you see a group of vans, two Trakmasters, one Bushtracker, one Trailcraft heading up through New Norcia, Paynes Find Kirkalocka to Cue. We'll be passing thru Bindoon northbound on Friday.

Sing out. We'll be on ch 18.

Route not yet determined. I prefer the inland highway to the coastal highway, but always looking to taking a different route, although not many left. I haven't been to Yalgoo before and wanted to see the wildflowers, so may just amble down through the wheatbelt from Morawa. All routes south of Geraldton are worth taking. We went the inland highway to Karajini in 2003. This year we went via the Brand Highway as we had to get to Wickham quickly.

If you do see us - call on UHF 40.

We haven't seen another BT since one in Alice Springs. Most of the many we met up with in the Kimberley may well be at Quilpie for the annual Rally. Is the BT member of your group anyone i know?

its really not where you go to see them in the midwest but where you might go and NOT see them
i did the 4wd weekends out of perth Rothsay trip and was nearly blinded by the colour

Now in Esperance but saw huge displays all the way down.millawa area was great and the Coalseam park south of there beautiful.I guess we are all familiar with the lay one's head on the pillow ans see miles of road syndrome -well i popped in to bed one eveming and as dropping off to sleep there was this never ending panorama of beautiful wildflowers.Wow.
WA is the garden state not our VIC
