Hi Guys,
When I told our primary school of our plans to travel the christmas after next, they told us to let them know in October before leaving so their could organize with the Dept of Education and their would set up a pack for us to home school the kids. Also the Dept wont be chasing you to find out why the kids aren't in school.
We have thre
young ones, a 9,8 & 6 year old.
I would suggest to get in touch with the schools Admin.

The support that we've had from our school has been fantastic. The teacher have been very encouraging about the kids traveling. They believe the kids will learn more from life experiences than what they will learn in a class room. Also with access to the internet these days you can always be in touch with the education system. I can't see that there would be any difference between NSW & Vic in obtaining material for such an undertaking.
Enjoy your trip and post pics of your adventure in your profile, you lucky buggers.

Yep, (school teacher here), get in touch with the school, they'll see the benefit.
Should you get a less than enthusiastic response, get hold of a book list for next years grades, and go on the trip anyway.
I've been in classes with kids off travelling and it's actually quite something for the class to follow their progress around the country (or world) you can do this old school with postcards, or you could run a blog of sorts.
The important thing is to get out there and do it.
cheers

We are from vic also and have been on the road 20 months. We home school our kids. Be careful registering kids for distance ed ect. Spoke to a number of people who have done this and have trouble getting school work sent to them. Sometimes have not got to a town in time to pick up school work or found somewhere better to go in a different direction but could not go because they had to be somewhere to pick up school work. Also sending in school work each week is a pain in the butt. We have a course that we follow and have a number of friends who are teachers and use them as resources. This allows us to be flexible with schooling and travel as
well. Teaching doesn't always have to be out of a book. sometimes practical teaching at the shops, beach or where ever is easier to remember. Have met some people with older kids who where told by their school to keep a diary while away for three months as this will be enough. Keep it simple because there is so much to see and learn just with travelling. All the best
Josh

G'day Justin and Tracey
We are doing exactly what you are looking at next year. Our kids will be 13 and 10 so here in NSW that is Year 8 and 5.
As has been said previously, the schools seem to be very supportive of travel plans. In addition though, we also contacted Valerie and Frank from Home Schooling Supplies in Werribee Vic. While they are primarily involved in traditional home schooling i.e folks that just don’t want their kids in school, they still have quite a few resources for people like us that want to travel.
One of the
services they offer is a test that gives a snapshot of where your child is academically at a point in time. From there they will put together a curriculum for you to follow for several weeks or months. When your kids have completed that curriculum they move onto the next installment. They learn at their pace where ever you are.
This is not an endorsement of their system mind you because we have not yet started the process but it may give you another string in your bow.

Cheers
Joff
