On top of the dogs post from the weekend about having the ability to post video on the forum/blogs etc. David has just embedded the ability in the system thru youtube. He's just done it with my blog on the tyre reseating and it's bloody great. Comes up with the thumbnail and all.

I'm probably stealing his thunder but great work David and crew. Love it.

Cheers Mick

Glad you like it. Was there a post about it? i did not see it I was just working on the blogs and saw that you created one and decided I would make it work. Now for the rest of you it will take a day or two for me to finallise so just be patient and it will be made available in the forum and blog spaces. Enjoy David

Ok I have now finished the addition of Insert YouTube into the forum and the blogs system.

You will now notice a new Insert option at the bottom row of the entry screens (New Thread, Reply and FollowUp pages in the forum and the New Entry screen in the blog).

This new button called Insert YouTube does exactly what it says you will need the YouTube Video ID which is the 11 character string located after the v= in the URL line. Enter this on the little window that comes up and hit Insert and presto the video embed command will be inserted.

Of course our standard terms of use apply to the videos and we will moderate anything that does not follow these terms.

As an example here is a video called Wedge Hill I found loaded using a search of ExplorOz in YouTube.

PS: We have added this ability to all our site content and I just had an idea to have a video prize like the Best Place Update for things like trek videos in trek notes or even place videos. Anyway more on this in the future.

Enjoy and let me know if you have any problems with this new
function.

Do you think it would also be possible to allow embedded video from Vimeo as well as youtube as the vimeo stream is of a much much better quality. If it can be done thats awesome, otherwise I guess we will just continue with links to the vids.

Thats awesome. Thats one of the great things about this site being so interactive. Things generally get done extremely fast and many requests from people are listened to and then implemented.

Thanks and glad you enjoyed it. Neither Tracy or myself have ever had any photography or video experience, but its all we seem to do these days.

This is just some preliminary footage taken on our trip. Tracy is currently going through about 50 hours of footage to see what she can put together.

The kids also did their own mini documentary which is finished and they have taken it into school for their teachers to pacify them after having 6 weeks off :)

Hi Richard,

I'm still trying to work out this Vimeo site.
The 500mb you get per week. Does that add up week after week. ie Week 2 you will have 1 gig week 3 1.5 gig etc?? The quality is fantastic.

I've got my video trip report down to about 2 hours 10 minutes. I want to cut it down to about 45-60 mins - so time consuming.

Cheers

Your get 500 meg / week period. If you dont use it you loose it basically. You may have to resort to rendering your finished video in sections, such as Tracy is doing with the kids documentary. Total length of it is about 34 minutes. Currently 2 sections of it up at the moment, with probably another 2 still to be uploaded.

I think the quota resets on a Sunday night. Its somewhat painful having to upload in pieces, but I think that the quality definitely makes it worthwhile.

Since purchasing the High Def camera, we have become HD snobs....LOL. Tracy even offered to go halves in a FHD LCD TV, so how could I possibly resist. The difference is awesome, even when you are watching standard definition stuff on it. The kids video was shot mainly on SD, with some of our HD footage to compliment it and its looks great on the big screen, compared to the old rounded screen CRT we were using.

Cheers

Thanks Richard,

That makes a bit more sense to me now. I will have a play with it.

Have enjoyed your recent blogs of your trip. Look forward to the next installment.

Definitely worth playing with. After watching videos on vimeo you tube is just painful. The only thing with vimeo is that you really need to let it buffer for a bit before playing or its gets pretty frustrating.

Glad you have enjoyed reading my blog. Only 38 days to go now. Tracy reckons if I put up what I wrote when we were out, people reading it would loose the will to live. Such is life as people can choose to read all of it, or they can read parts of it, or nothing, ikts really up to them :)

The only problem I am having now is actually trying to read my scribble from when we were on the trip, which is proving to be a real challange, but I will get there bit by bit.

Cheers
