The trough system came through here yesterday - the wind and dust started about 5:15 pm and came very quickly - it howled all night and we got about 1mm mud until 10:30 pm when the wind swung around to the SE and turned very cold, as it does. Still blowing and will be until tomorrow apparently. Here's a photo taken from the front steps looking to the SE - just got the photo before the dust hit. Another day in paradise - now going to get the vacuum out and pick up all the red grit that is now inside the window sills on the Big REd side of the house (spent all day yesterday making the house clean!!!)Image Could Not Be Found

Ruth,
Just as
well you were not at Rathdowny as the storm season has started earlier this year.
The weather"experts" have predicted more hail & high winds in the next few months.
Regards.
Vince

Doug, we got homesick not long after we drove out! Then had to spend time building the house and as soon as the outside walls were up and windows and doors in we took off back here - been here since April! Might go down at Christmas and put the internal walls in ready for the plasterer, might not!
Vince, the storm couple of nights ago dropped 37mm on the lawn and fruit trees at
Rathdowney. Our block is very open to the west and the wind screams up from Palen
Creek but no damage thank goodness.
I believe there will be some very interesting storms both out here and down there this year. Up your way Doug the 'old timers' are predicting lots of early cyclones.
I think the wind we have now is supposed to be getting to
Rathdowney today - wonder if they are getting the dust as
well.

Hi Ruth.
"Your" visitor numbers dropping off yet?
I could just imagine being in the caravan
park when one of those hits.
Did you here about David's little adventure? Picks of the repairs in "My Profile".
With all problems he had, he held up really
well.
All the best.

Love the "suspension" mod in your rig pic Wim. I reckon that there are a few who can learn how to keep their rig off the ground with that one! LMAO ROACHIE, you there?

Hi JohnR.
Not my rig. It was a group effort.
Was not very comfortable but it did get the vehicle home.
That little effort will be told around
camp fires for a long time to come.

Hi Wim, numbers have dropped off a little - but we are in school holidays at the moment, once they finish it seems as if someone has shut the
gate.
Didn't know about your added adventures - good pictures.

Hi Ruth,
Hope all is
well with you! I really like your photos and even though the bride has no hankering to get back to the Simpson I think it is a very special place.
I am starting to think that weather watching in
Birdsville is all the go.
All the best
Theo

Hi Theo, what a shame the bride won't come for a visit - next winter would be a good time. Weather watching has always been a favorite pastime for me - the photo I added here has been picked up for the ABC website today.
Think the weather is going to be windy, very hot and a long summer - what about where you are Theo?

Hi Ruth,
The weather in
Brisbane has been ironic, I mean we were in winter one day and then summer with about 4 days of spring in between. We have had couple of summer lightning storms but litle rain in the city itself. I would bet that summer this year will be hot and wet.
I was suggesting a trip to the races to the bride and she said "what for" - her negatives were flies, drunken louts and a long drive. You know how determined women can be! But I countered with atmosphere, iconic event and lots of friendly people.
Who knows we may make it one day.
Kind regards
Theo

Yes Dear, they blew away on the SW yesterday evening, prior to the 1 mm of mud which rained down sideways. I thought you were in the Flinders - and is Bill Brinkworth working out of there now? Saw an ad in The Australian.
Your house has a reserve of $130K - auction of almost everything coming up in the next short while.

I am back from the Flinders.
Tom Brinkworth is the Chair of Wetlands and Wildlife who owns the place. What was the ad about? Maybe Bill is his son?
Yerr.... methinks the probability of buying up there is Nil. Thanks for the info. Maybe now is the time to keep hands out of pockets...lol. Saying that, we are off to Alice next week for a short stint.
Cheers

Thanks Ruth for another great shot from your part of the world.
I always enjoy your Pics & Posts. I have only ever been to
Birdsville once, back in 93 & noticed a
sign on the
gate leading to the Airport
gate which read something like this, "for joy flights, see Stoddy at the bar". LOL
Anyway, we had a beer or six, don't remember seeing or meeting"Stoddy", but given that his advertised office was the bar, decided against a joy flight!! Thanks & best wishes

Barry, thanks for your nice words. I cannot blame you for not wanting to go flying with Stoddy - you made a wise choice - he is a great guy and a wonderful '
mine host' - but pilot? Ha ha - hope he doesn't find out I said this!!!! Stoddy probably served you the six beers.
Things have changed a bit since 93 - maybe you should make another visit.

G'day Ruth,
Thanks for sharing the dust & wind. It arrived here @ 10pm, and scared hell out of a number of residents. Couple of trees a bit leaner, but no iron missing off any roof. No rain to speak of.
We're busy with cattle, so are working on the "beach effect" on the floors for the moment.

Hooroo,
Bob.

Hello Bob, loved the photo - my car was sitting out in the open and there was dried mud on it in splotches.
Everyone busy with the musters here at the moment. Love the thought of your 'beach' effect.
