Having issues with the sub tank fuel indication level
Main tank readings fine (note 2 senders into 1 gauge via dash switch) so the dash gauge is fine

Trying to get an idea of likely culprit as I'm sure others have experienced this.

When ever switching to the sub tank the level will display anywhere between the actual level and empty.
flick over to main and back to sub then get a different reading from a few seconds before ( so not convinced its the sender)

Suspect dash switch (poor contacts)
Poor wiring harness/ connectors
Fuel solenoid valve (if sender is routed through the valve)

Any prior experience's

Thanks

About 4500 100 series had a problem with the instrument clusters, the resistance of the sender did not match the cluster and eventually the cluster burns out. mine was replaced under warranty and a patch harness was added to stop it burning out the new cluster. what year is yours? mine is jan 03.cheers Paul

My bosses 2003 Sahara had aproblem with the sub tank and it was about $1500 for the parts which were replaced under warranty.
I believe it might have been the pump but will check tomorrow

Asked the boss and it was the pump that died, he had no probs with the readings

hi harrow,
i have exactly the same with my 1999 hzj105 std diesel 100

i had all the same problems and then it would just read empty,

now the fault got worse and now the needle just drops to the very bottom and the low fuel light flashes

i suspect a broken wire somewhere connecting the sub sender to the main harness

i cured it for a while - under the back end on the pass side a grey connector it fitted to the chassis crossmember with the wire coming from the sub sender- took it apart cleaned and wd40 applied- worked for a while but then went as above.
i took out the sender and all tested ok
dont know if it could be a relay somwhere run from the main/sub switch- this has only 1 or 2 wires connected to the back - i pulled this out and seemed fine

i just run it till i think 50 litres then go to main but my wife has emptied it twice-

i will probably have to pull out the wiring and check

i hope somebody else can shed some light on this

i asked on lcool but nobody had had this problem, i dont think this is the same fault as the instrument cluster issue

i will keep an eye on this post

cheers

mike

Harrow like others mine is a 2003 and the same happend after about 60,000 kms. Km does not matter though as apparentely it is a failure common in LC 100 series of that time. Had mine replaced in Port headland under warranty no problems since.

Hi Guys

Replaced the sender, new genuine and sorted the prob

Sender cost $240-00

No aftermarket avail

Found 1 from a wrecker ($80-00) but given some originals were burning out clusters decided not to risk the cluster and bit the bullet on genuine
