I have just purchased a Lowrance GPS/sounder combo (LMS 330c) for my boat. This has a MMC slot.
I live in the
Kimberley- does anyone produce nautical maps for these areas, which I can slot into the unit, or am I missing something? (Is this something I can create myself)
From what I can tell, the U.S is fairly
well covered, but I'm not finding too many Aus sites.

Snaggers,
Try this website.
http://www.hydro.gov.au/
They are the national body responsible for coordinating the charting of the oceans around Australia and they do have digital charts. Whether they have charts in the format you need for your particular GPS and for the price you may be able to afford remains to be seen.

For around $460 you can get the Navionics card that has marine charts for all Australia.
$360 approx buys you a chart of smaller local areas.
Any boat
shop should sell GPS and Navionics cards. There is another chart too, Blue something I think.

Make sure you check your prices from this website with the current slide of the Aus dollar against the US greenback. He used to be super cheap, but you can actually buy from Johnny Appleseed at or cheaper than what this guy can land product at the moment - at least from JA you have full warranty etc. JA's prices on handheld Garmins are just unbeatable at the moment. We also just did the same thing with a Furuno boat sounder/GPS map combo. Bonzer had a good price but we negotiated at the Bris boat show and beat his price with full warranty (Furuno warranty will only honour Aus purchased goods).
Cheers

Hi Andrew
My post wasn't aimed at Doug at all. I posted to alert people that the link in Doug's post goes to a US based importer who cannot match local prices with the current state of the Aus dollar. Bonzer used to just kill local prices by huge margins with some trick stuff that isn't retailed here. I have read many of Doug's informative posts about JA and Garmin etc, but my mention of JA and current Garmin handhelds was for all to take advantage of some super cheap prices at the moment with prices at least half compared to what they were 6 months ago for some pretty good devices.
I guess it is pretty funny to look back at my post and I should have worded it a little better or posted as a reply not as a follow up. Oh
well all in the fun of it
Have a goodn

Not having a go at you (or Doug), just pointing out a funny side to a GPS thread. :-)
I'm off to visit JA again, ironically. :-)
