I have a set of two DELL speakers from a computer system that work
well. I want to connect them to the car audio system.
The DELL speakers are 12 volt so hope I can run this from the car's electrical system. Is it just a matter of connecting the audio wires into the existing speaker wires of the radio.
I hooked it up this morning but not a sound from the DELL speakers so far.
Any suggestions gladly received.
Cheers

hi there
computer speakers need a direct power supply aswell, not just connection of "sound wiring"
you could do this by connecting to cars power supply, but why bother when you can buy a good set of car speakers reasonably cheap anyway

Thanks donks1, yes I have wired the 12 volt side into power, and the sound wires connected, the LED lights up on the speakers, but no sound.....the DELL speakers were very, very cheap, that's why I want to use them if I can.

Are the speakers 4 O or 8 O , they might not be compatible with the car stereo.

Chris
No you can't really do this as the Dell speakers will plug into a headphone socket, which is only a low power output. If you hook into the normal speaker output from a car radio, which is a high power output you can blow the amp in the Dell speakers. On decent car stereo, you will have an Aux output which you could use, or some you can change the speaker outputs from high to low, both these options are used to hook into and amp.

I assume your radio is old and doesn't have an jack input for MP3 players etc.
We recently upgraded our car radio and now run a wired link from the laptop to the car radio. It is great, as the volume from the laptop navigating software was way to low to hear in a fast moving 4WD.
No problems hearing the information or music stored on our laptop. Beats installing extra speakers.
