Gee Richard , your a night owl !
I was up in
Tibooburra a couple of weeks ago . Nice interesting little place . We were there to go gold detecting , so I did not do any looking around .
Don't miss
White Cliffs - a fascinating spot .

Richard
Fort Grey in Sturt NP is anice place to
camp. Flies might be a problem but they are everywhere in the outback now.
Arkaroola via Mooloowatana is a good graded road with some nice scenery along the way
Cheers

So I am a night owl.
Well at least I am not the only one. I just started my holidays tonight so I am allowed :)
Many thanks for the responses,
I guess we could stay in both - why rush!

I travelled these
routes in May.
The "road"from
Cameron Corner through
Sturt national park is one of the worst I have found anywhere, although it is now trumpd by the aces track from
William Creek to Lake Eyre.
I had a look at
Fort Grey but thought it was pretty dry and desolate. They have had quite a bit of rain now so should be greener. BHut it leaves me a bit cold with Nat parks over fencing.
I stayed in the caravan
park in
Tibooburra. It was OK with dirt only. facilities OK. Nothing to write home about. We were disappointed that the Family Hotel meals quality had declined in our opinion. But if you haven't been there it is worth the visit to see the Clifton Pugh walls.
The Merty Merty and Strezlecki tracks were OK, The Strez having lots of corrugations and the Merty lots of sandy sharp crests with big pothole breakthroughs . The track south from Mt Hopeless to
Arkaroola is better than both IMHO , and you can marvel how cattle can live on rocks, although there may be grass now.
The Strz is one of those tracks that I was in a quandary whether to deflate or not. If you can get up to 90 the corrugations are better , but this is not advisable with deflated tyres. My wife made the mistake of coming up behind the
water truck. A near spin later and she handed over to me. So always go as far away from the
water truck as possible and slow right down.

Hi Richard,
Dead Horse Gully isn't too bad to stay in. In the National
Park 3 kms out of Tib on Warri
Warri Gate road. Long drop dunnies, picnic tables, gas BBQ's and hopefully a bit of
water in the tanks, but as usual take you own to be on the safe side. Many
camp spots tucked into
Granite rocks as a nice back drop.
Arkaroola worth a visit. 4wd tracks, Observatory and history. Basic
shop with fuel. Caravan
park. If you want
bush camping,
Balcanoona or
Weetootla Gorge or around at Grindell's Hut all OK. These are all in Nat Parks too. It's a great area. Have fun.
Cheers, Sally.

Hi we have travelled that way many times and have now found a great stop. At
Milparinka on the river before you reach the town, turn right before you reach the river. A great
free bush camp about 20km before Tiboorburra on the south side.
Cheers
Burra
