We have a Shippshape which makes no noise, might have something to do with the shape of the truck though ;-))
I've had a Maggolina go past on the expressway on top of a fourunner and it was whistling like a bastard, no idea whether it was the rooftop tent or the vehicle though.
If you are looking for a rooftop tent do some research as they are not all the same and most require you to be outside in the elements (rain) when accessing the tent, bit hard to keep bedding dry when you are climbing in wet.
That was what put us off the hardshell type rooftoppers. The shippshapeis great because you have somewhere dry on the ground and access is out of the weather.

I have a shippshape too.
I bought it second-hand and have used it a few times. Its nice to be high and dry and as you say the awning downstairs is a good feature too.
No noise i have noticed while driving but when a Truck comes from the opposite direction on the highway, you sure feel it. The fourby all-but stops dead at the impact of the rush of air coming the other way.
Apart from the increase in fuel usage and the buffeting around on the highways I think they are a great way to
camp.

I have a shippshape too and havent noticed any noise either, not even the ladder.
Agree with the other comments and we have used ours for an aggregate of over 9 months over the 5 years that we have had it.
Wind is the only issue that we have if it is really bad but otherwise it is really good.

Maggiolina makes no noise at all and is very wind resistant..
Because it covers your whole roof you also get a very cool car in summer when the acond is on because the roof is always in shade...
When it rains you get no noise because of the hard roof and when it is windy you get no side flap...
Could not be happier...
I have had the other ones and they can jam em up their armpits...

Yeah same here,,, just watch out with the columbia.....
I am not sure if both sides have windows....
If you go up north and it rains all night with the temp at night sometimes in the high 20's and humid,,, airflow is a killer..
Maggiolina has a window each side and when it is wet you can roll it down from the top and good airflow is still there...
In the dry you roll it up from the bottom...
Rolling it "down" in the wet allows the roof to shelter the air gap...

Not wanting to hijack your thread but looking at some of the comments - I was wondering- how do you go with movement with the roof top tent? I mean how stable do they feel when it is really windy, or you turn over in bed, or when you happen to be doing some .....um.... 'other' moving? doc.

John....
"used to" - no longer a problem or just over to quickly to worry about it!
How is the KK van going..look impressive, previously had a 2003 KK camper trailer and was happy with that. How do they compare with the trailer?
Cheers

Not sure what he does now he is carrying it with a Landy, was his wife's suggestion to have the poles in place.
